I just dropped one of my Nikon zoom lenses from about 4 feet onto a throw rug on a linoleum floor
No apparent external damage & can look through lens ok, however unable to rotate the zoom ring its locked on 80.
Unable to focus lens also. The focus power is supplied by the camera, this lens does not have the motor in the lens.
Has anyone been there & any idea of possible cost.
I have insurance with a $500.00 deductible.
I hate to submit a claim even if the estimate is $750.00.

Mine cost around $150 to repair recently and they said the damage was from 'impact'. I never dropped it but many little dings accumulated, apparently. That was through Nikon so I had shipping charges as well.

We have a camera repairman right here on the forum, Rick Riggins, from Denver. He's been in the business for thirty years, works out of his house and keeps the cost down. I've had some work done by him and some others on the forum have to. Everyone sounds satisfied. His prices are very reasonable. Give him a call or email and see what he says. He has a web site, here's a link

Good luck

Thanks, but Rick does not work on the 80-400mm lens.
I'm at the mercy of Nikon.

Send it to Nikon in Melville NY. They'll inspect it and give you the cost to repair. If you say YES, it gets done and returned. If you say NO, they return it at their cost.

Call Nikon USA Customer Service for more info.

I dropped a 24-85 Nikkor lens that resulted in a slight gap and a bend in the barrel, obviously would not rotate....glass was OK....but the bend told me is was useless, and almost threw it away ......took a chance and sent in to Nikon....they fixed it or $178 and change.

and if I remember the guys name right...it was Rick out of Denver, or someone in Denver who told me they used to fix Nikon stuff but Nikon will not send him repair parts any longer....therefore I sent direct to factory

I recently sent my D7000 and lens to the Melville repair depot and the process was handled entirely on-line. Go to this page and complete the questionnaire.

https://www.nikonusa.com/en/Service-And-Support/Service-And-Repair.page

They will give you an estimate. If you want to proceed enter in you CC info, and they will send you the mailing label and repair order to include with the lens. All shipping costs are your expense. Good Luck

I had posted my experience here -

I had my 70-200 repaired after impact damage (hit by a softball while in a Think Tank pouch). No external damage but zoom ring was stuck. Cost was just over $600 for repair plus shipping to Nikon. Hope this helps. I too have a $500 deductible and did not put in a claim.

You bought an expensive lens but were careless with using it. Your problem.

This is a pointless response. The OP no doubt feels bad enough about this already. What good does it do to throw it at them? Stuff happens. Have you never had an accident? What is wrong with you anyway?

Most of this persons replies are pointless and rude. Likely they have a huge ego and very low self esteem.

I do agree, Cthahn's comment was completely worthless and definately uncalled for. Accidents happen, no matter how careful you are.

Short of complete destruction, virtually anything is repairable. Do as Doduce suggested and send the lens to Nikon in Melville, NY for a quote. You may find it is not as expensive to repair as you may think and most likely way cheaper than a new lens. The lens fell onto a rug so there is a good chance the damage is minimal.

Hope it works out well for you.

wsa111, please ignore "Cthahn the troll" comment, he always has to start crap with people all the time. Anyway, you may try to Google for a Nikon authorized repair shop in your area before sending it to Nikon. Hope you find one close and that they can repair it inexpensively.

I've been here long enough to know this. I rarely respond to his comments but in this instance I was considering how I would feel if I was the OP and received a response like that.
