Depends on what and why you are printing. Frequently you can spend more on a set of cartridges than the printer you bought them for. It could make sense to run two printers 1 for draft and 1 for best. i'm on 4 printers including 1 lazer sometimes i'm looking for quality sometimes just cheap after all if i print a web page as long as i can read it, thats all that matters. if I want to frame it and put it on the wall i'll use my canon or epson Photo's can be for quality or information. I sometimes will use a camera phone to just record some info , but for advertising i use my dslr.

My comment, of course, pertained strictly to photographic prints - "what that time and money was spent on."
Whether it's pictures my kids have taken for their albums or my own personal work, I print everything as if it will hang in a gallery, using the same care as I do when making an image.
That is my philosophy, I do not insinuate everyone should take photography seriously.

I used to refill cartridges until I found 'SimplyInk.com' most of the ink is about seven dollars. I compared them to canon ink and there is no difference.

Google doesn't come up with simplyink.com
Any ideas?

So they have you hooked for the ink.
Someone calculated the cost of the ink at...............
(you won't believe it....but it is true........)
$5,200 a gal. (five thousand two hundred dollars)

Now you know why the printer is so cheap!

More comparisons in pricing of certain liquids!

Google; refillable ink cartriges.
I have an Epson printer and use a CIS with pigment inks.
If you print alot the $ savings are huge.

Not sure if this fits yours, but they might have one that does.

I pay approx. $3.50 an ounce for ink.

If everyone used these ink systems printer prices would be much higher.

I know it will void the warranty, if I save 400-500 dollars a year why would I care. the printer I use costs $300.00

I am sure people will say what about archive quality.

There are many paintings in museums that are pigment based.

Dimes!!! The carts for my new Canon pro 100 cost over a hundred for OEM. I am waiting til the after mkt shakes out before I put it in service.

For 4 years I used an Epson NX-305 with a CIS.. worked beautifully with few pluggages cleared with tip soaking in rubbing alcohol and the the printer died from "message saying outlived life expectancy." Oh! it had a mileage counter??? (think it was waste ink sponge). The money saved >$2000 not dimes... well 20 thousand dimes.

Oh, but that ink fades. Bull, the UV additive is not a big cost item to mfg of ink. I have prints 4 years old hanging .. no glass... on my wall looking OK. No perhaps if I put them in the Florida sun or a Xenon arc chamber with Oxygen added to produce high Ozone... perhaps... but that is not my living room... so that is a myth... also a myth ... void the Warranty? What are you going to say stopped working I used none OEM?? are they going to analize the ink? NO, bunk.

I just installed a CIS on my Epson stylus Photo 825, 6 color, and it is doing beautifully.

Filling the carts with a drilled hole... better to burn with a hot nail to prevent junk in the cart. I would put the hole on top near the deliver end. Stand the cart on the end with the hole high and inject 2ml at most. Next tape the hole and let the cart stabilize. That is to say, some will drip out til the pressure in cart drops from liquid loss.

Too many HumBugs in UHH who can not tie their shoes, they only know what they are told and add to problems rather than looking for solutions. No offense to those who like Velcro shoes like me nor to you RWR and others who, like Evita Peron, throw dimes to the crowd.

Good luck philo, Check the ink specs here:

I love my pro 100 and have been printing 13x19 prints. They are beautiful, however the ink cost is too high.
Like you I will reduce my printing and wait for after market ink.

I'm fanatical about recycling my cartridges at Staples. That's how I get the money to buy new ones. In order to get the credit for them every quarter, you have to spend at least $70 on ink. I'd hate to turn in all those cartridges and lose the credit.

I didn't know about the 20 cartridge upgrade. How does that work?

Never heard of having to spend $70.00 to get the credit. Maybe you should check with the home office of staples. The upgrade comes into play when you have spent a certain amount. Every purchase is recorded on your staples rewards card. You do have one don't you? When you hit a certain amount you are automatically upgraded to premium membership. Looks like you need to talk to the manager of your store or go online to the staples reward site. Good Luck!

Sorry. That should have been $30 within 180 days.

You have to be fast to plug the drilled hole back up. My kit came with different size rubber plugs. I put a paper towel under mine but there is always a small amount that leaks out but once the hole is plugged it stops because there is no more air pressure

I was going to buy a Pro 100 but after checking my ink source and none available I changed my mine. They sell the printers cheap but then screw you on the refills.

good point.......I will be sure that the plug fits the hole before I inject the ink. I have to figure out a way to plug the outlet so it doesn't run out as i'm filling.
