The Badlands....cold and windy in the winter, hot and windy in the summer. Best times can be spring or fall. But you know it is in South Dakota so snow can happen any time in the spring and fall as well as winter. But by spring or fall we're not into the winter deep freeze so snow melts pretty fast.
Not sure of what sleeping arrangements will be made, but there are some small motels in the area and also Wall, SD isn't too far from there. Also, there are some campgrounds in the area. We live in a motorhome so if we're in SD when they have this, we'll stay in our home on wheels at probably the Badlands KOA. Our RV is our home 365/24/7.

In 1972 when I was doing wildlife field research in western Nebraska and South Dakota my tent collapsed on me due to a severe, " livestock advisory" snowstorm on June 18th.
and I've seen snow on May 15 and July 4 in Ithaca NY, in early August in Machias, ME, and July 5 in Vail, CO.
So maybe my best advice should be...DON'T FOLLOW ME AROUND DURING THE SUMMER!
Dave in SD
Snow can happen anytime in SD! We usually don't have much snow in the beginning of October, but...then this year we had the epic blizzard killing over 30,000 cattle. We hunkered down in the RV and did just fine, but were snowed in for a few days until they got the park plowed out. Ya never know up there!
Sounds interesting to this old coot too. black_ops999@yahoo.com

I can't go either, but it's because I got lost in the Badlands about five years ago. Just walked out about 2 months ago.
I just don't think I can face that risk again.
If you go out hiking, take a compass and leave a note with the head camp counselor what direction you are headed.
Have fun.
I too am interested in this get-together. I'll watch the thread for more information

I PM'd Dave. I haven't heard back yet. I am planning on going. I am staying at a motel in Interior. Would be nice to have a list of people going and how to get in contact with others. Let me know what you are planning if you don't mind my asking.
I'm arriving on Tuesday and staying at the Badlands Budget Host. Will be driving a blue Acura with SD plates.
