These look good. A bit on the costly side but hey may work for you.

Everybody, I appreciate all these suggestions. I can think of many places where I need knee pads without even being near a camera - gardening, repairing my riding mower, working on computers that companies shove under desks...

Maybe I'll even shoot a few garden macros some day.

Troxell Super-Soft™ Knee Pads:

http://www.troxellusa.com/Topics/TroxellUSA_Kneepads/index.aspx

I discovered these several years ago when searching for a way to pad and protect my knees when, rather than crouch, I drop down to one or both knees to shoot photos on hikes. Basketball-type pads are too flimsy, tight and can’t be worn on the outside of pants. I wear thesepads with shorts (on bare skin) or over hiking pants and find them surprisingly comfortable; they are “infinitely” adjustable with a single soft, rubberized hook & loop strap. I can get them on and off in seconds, wear them comfortably for hours and toss them into a backpack or camera bag when not needed. They offer excellent protection against jagged rocks, underbrush, or whatever I choose to kneel on. I’m a big guy and not in great shape, so my “landings” aren’t usually soft – but they are now with these pads.

I found other brands and designs, whatever their primary purpose, are harder to get on and off, and, with their buckles, dual straps, and hard plastic parts, they chafe and hurt the backs of my knees or legs when used for walking, kneeling, rising, and walking again – not what such pads were designed for. While I enthusiastically recommend Troxell knee pads to anyone that needs to kneel for any length of time for any reason, they are great for photographers, especially outdoors!!

The extra large leather surface pads are the best (and not too large for average men’s knees/legs.

I wore knee pads everyday while working outside unloading rail cars full of flour. They unload from the bottom so I had to spend a lot of time crawling around under them on all kinds of surface in all weathers. While they look awkward the hard cap gel lined knee pads work the best. I bought mine at Lowe's for about 40 bucks but for occasional use they have other sets that are not as expensive but, as always, you get what you pay for.

Harbor Freight has an assortment of affordable kneepads. One in particular is very lightweight, comfortable, and inobtrusive. I can wear them under loose fitting trousers,

Check out Western Safety Super Flexible Knee Pads (Item Number 60737). I paid $5.99 for them. Momma has a pair of them also.

One word of advice don't skimp on the knee pads the cheap ones offered in some stores will only frustrate you and wind up around your ankles because they can't be adjusted easily,
Go for the more expensive knee pads with GEL padding also.

A visit to your local Home Depot or Lowes may be your best bet. Buy quality. The cheap ones are more of a pain (literally) then they are worth.

I bought my knee pads from Home Depot. Since I thought to buy them during the winter all they had was a $9.00 pair, but they work pretty good. I have a bad knee but they do the trick. If you don't have either a H D or Lowe's in your area check their website. It might add a bit to cost for shipping but worth it. Now my knees don't hurt long aftet a "kneeling"photo excursion.
