can anyone recommend knee pads that are flexible and make it comfortable to kneel on hard surfaces etc. while shooting. And also fit snugly while not slipping. Someone recommended some skateboarding knee pads but they look awfully bulkiy and not very flexible for a photographers needs. Thanks for your help! I know their are various gardening knee pads out there, but velcro does not hold them in place very well. But of course it depends on what brand you buy.

A visit to your local Home Depot or Lowes may be your best bet. Buy quality. The cheap ones are more of a pain (literally) then they are worth.

I would suggest you check with Home Depot or Lowe's if those stores are in your part of the country. Both should have some for gardening.

The volleyball knee pads sounds like a Great Idea. I will check at dick"s sporting goods to see what they carry. I am a little guy about 5" 7",155 lbs, with small calfs( not well developed). What size would you recommend that i try? Thanks for your recommendation!!

Dennis mentioned gardening kneepads. If kneepads themselves don't work for you you may want to look at the kneeling pads made for gardeners. High density foam rubber just big enough to kneel on. Put a clip on it and hang it from your belt, if that type of set up would work for your situation. Maybe one of those retractable key reels would work.

I would go to a store and try some on to see exactly what size should be a good fit for you.

I agree as you might be wearing them over pants which you don't do for volleyball--so get whats comfortable

Look at workwear - some overalls and trousers come with sewn in knee pads and lots of pockets!!!!!wear with a flyfishing jacket and you will be the 'bees knees'.....

I use my old roller blade knee pads. They stay in place and have a hard shell outside and nice padding inside. I can wear them using just the Velcro to hold them in place or the ones I have can also be slid on over my jeans then tightened down with the Velcro straps. You can use a clip and hang them from your belt loop or your camera bag when not in use.

Red, how serious are you about your knee pads?
Get the old fashioned looking, all leather pads with felt as the pad. You can get then from any flooring contractor supply for between $30-$40. They are made by the likes of CLC, CRL, Powerhold, Occidental, and I'm sure many others. They are very stiff until broken in, but you could speed up the process by crawling around on your hands and knees for a few days. Get the leathers straps, no elastic. These are serious flooring contractor gear, or serious photographers!!
I have two different pairs(Powerhold, CLC). I wouldn't waste my time with the stuff you see at places like Home Depot etc.
When I shoot sports, especially outdoors, and nature, if I forget my knee pads, I simply call it a day and go home.
Good luck with your knee pads. ;-)

Home depot. As a former "carpet kicker", those knee pads work well for any use.

The biggest I have had using different types of pads is the straps can cut off the circulation to the lower legs. Make sure you try them on before buying, if possible.
