I am sure that some of the Liberal syssys here should aid you with great advice about knee pads. They use them for other reasons than photography! They can advice on what kind of wrist bands to get too since so many of them suffer from limp wrists!

Now, now... be nice. Although I agree you should reserve that for the Chit-Chat area! 8-)

can anyone recommend knee pads that are flexible and make it comfortable to kneel on hard surfaces etc. while shooting. And also fit snugly while not slipping. Someone recommended some skateboarding knee pads but they look awfully bulkiy and not very flexible for a photographers needs. Thanks for your help! I know their are various gardening knee pads out there, but velcro does not hold them in place very well. But of course it depends on what brand you buy.

If you buy 511 utility pants, you can get nice knee pads that fit in the pockets inside each leg. that way they are always there and not visible

I am a carpenter, and spend a lot of time on my knees. I have tried them all, from the $100 set to the cheapest $5 pair. The best I have ever found are sold at Home Depot for about $12. They have 2 soft rubber straps with adjustment slots. They are made of a semi - hard rubber and have cushioning on the inside. Not sure what the brand is but they are an off-white color. They are the only ones sold there that fit that description. (They also come in handy when you need to tell your wife that you just bought a new lens) :-D

Your description sounds similar to the type I have!

FWIW, DuluthTrading company sells a pair of pants that have pockets in the knees so you can slid standard Home Depot pads in without the need for those uncomfortable rubber straps to hold them in place.

I believe that yours answer is rude and improper.I myself am not afraid of the people you refer to as limp wrist-ed. You on the other hand I would be really scared to make your acquaintance,!st for being the A---ole that I sure you are.(got that feeling from your answer) 2nd I found that the people that can't accept (Limp wrists as a human being) are very insecure in their own sexuality.
In case your wondering ,my sexuality lies for the opposite sex,but I have good friend that don't.I have no fear of them as I know were I stand.Maybe you should do a self analysis of yourself.

Pants from Björnkläder Swedish work wear. They have tons of pockets and best of all, knee pad pockets. No straps cutting into your lags. Boat Electric in Seattle have/had some at close out. "Khaki only and limited to sizes on hand". Knee pads sold separately. They had/have limited stock at about half retail. http://boatelectric.com/back_door.htm About half way down the page. If they are out Google them.

Red, how serious are you about your knee pads?
Get the old fashioned looking, all leather pads with felt as the pad. You can get then from any flooring contractor supply for between $30-$40. They are made by the likes of CLC, CRL, Powerhold, Occidental, and I'm sure many others. They are very stiff until broken in, but you could speed up the process by crawling around on your hands and knees for a few days. Get the leathers straps, no elastic. These are serious flooring contractor gear, or serious photographers!!
I have two different pairs(Powerhold, CLC). I wouldn't waste my time with the stuff you see at places like Home Depot etc.
When I shoot sports, especially outdoors, and nature, if I forget my knee pads, I simply call it a day and go home.
Good luck with your knee pads. ;-)

This just brings up a mental picture too funny to ignore... Legions of photographers, crawling around on their hands and knees, just to break in their knee pads...

Hey, after a day driving my bus, I *need* a laugh!

I recommend getting knee pads that are removable from your pants knee. No straps to bunch up and feel uncomfortable.
Pads are cheep to replace. Just slid them into the pocket over your knee.

Big, are you a mason, and have you personally used those pads for at least a year.
No offense, I only ask because those types of pads never seem to be very good. I'm sure many here are recommending a pad they have never personally used. ;-)

Buy gel pads, hard outer surface and soft inner surface. Buy the type with a single elastic strap with velcro.
I have used these for 8 years, you can walk around without them slipping down all day. I find with daily use they last about 2 years. The type i have are made by 'Nailors', dont know if they are available in the US.
