Louisiana is a Right to Open Carry State. I see no one with guns on their hips. In Louisiana we do not even have to have a permit to own a gun or even register a gun. We are even considering striking down Conceal Carry permits but it brings in so much revenue that that might be impossible to get rid up.
Now, of course children don't carry guns around but they are taught gun safety.

I was in Arizona last year for several months and you see men and women carrying all the time. On the street in Walmart at the Drs office all over. I also know for sure that one of the people I saw was illegal and he was carrying also. I know he is illegal because he works the same place my friend does and my friend told me there were 6 or 7 of them currently on that job. And that was in Sheriff Joe's county.

That is not the way it is here in Louisiana. Sure, if I am going to spent the day in the swamp I will carry on my hip. In the city it would be best to conceal.

There is a Wal-Mart in Slidell Louisiana that does not sale fire arm in-store since Hurricane Katrina because Slidell is too close to New Orleans. No Fire Arms allowed on the door. All the other Wal-Marts sale Fire Arms and Ammo.

But do we open carry on our hips? We can but we don't always.

Slidell, been 20 years since the last time I was there I should probably make a point of going before I get too damned old. I actually like it there.

He was poking fun at the Brits. And if you didn't notice, I think he was being a little sarcastic about the way they would defend themselves without a gun. Based on a previous post you made, it sounds like you might be anti- gun. I didn't get that from his post.
Sarge, if I'm wrong about this, I do apologize.
The reason I hadn't responded is because I was at work.

Call it sarcastic or what-ever, I firmly believe in the right of any American to possess, carry and use a firearm. My skin is just about tough enough to withstand the recoil of a 12 gauge shotgun or an AR-15.

I carry because I am able to do so. For those who do not care for firearms I simply tell them not to buy one. I do not have a set of golf clubs, a set of dominoes, or a Ferrari. Why... simple, because i do not want them. I like camera equipment and firearms as did my father, uncle, and grandfather. It must be genetic.I am not a constitutionalist just an American.

Thanks for acknowledging. Yes - definitely very different to UK. There are very few guns here - I'm sure you know that even our police don't carry - unless looking for a known armed criminal. The result is that on the whole housebreakers and robbers are non-violent. If disturbed or discovered they will get the hell out without any confrontational violence.

Sorry Delderby in the US many of us love shooting sports. Trap, skeet, sporting clays, five-stand, cowboy action, IPSC, steel, plinking, speed shooting, tactical classes and courses, airgunning, full auto, supressed, benchrest, long range shooting are but a few of the events we have. Stopping robbers does not consume as much ammunition as you may think. On a typical day at the range I could use 300-400 rounds. As yet I have not had the chance to shoot any robbers but I am ready. I even make the majority of my ammunition. I must really be way out on the right wing. Oh well it just must be my calling. Ps I also shoot cameras and a bow.

Any number of despotic regimes based their justification on supposed heavenly doctrines. European monarchies were especially fond of the supposed divine rights of kings.

As far as having NO restrictions on gun ownership or carrying, why not then let eight year old children carry firearms? By analogy, let eight year old children drive cars, drink hard liquor and enjoy all of the other supposed prerogatives of adulthood?

Let's also remember that the Constitution can and has been amended, and amendments can and have been withdrawn, removed, or otherwise nullified. Please consider the Volstead Act and its unfortunate consequences.

These 2 documents go together. The first explains what and why. the second explains how it's to be accomplished. Most of the people who wrote the first one was involved in writing the second.

The Old Dominion has had that privilege for years. A person is able to open or conceal carry almost anywhere, except in Govt bldgs, churches, schools and bars.

The bar ban is different with a CCW. It can be carried concealed but the CCW must not be drinking alcoholic beverages. This limitation is made under the honor system. As responsible gun owners with CCW, we seem to be abiding by this requirement. No mass murders or terrorist attacks have occurred in Virginia bars or restaurants.

The great state of New Hampshire does not even require gun owners to register for CCW but they can still do that if they want to. VA's legislators have been trying to adopt the NH example, but this amendment has been tabled by others several times so far.

I have no problem with the proposed law, as long as harsh and swift penalties are set for misuse of the priviledge. this will also require the eraseing of all the looopholes the lawyers have written into all the states laws.
