I am sure it is a misprint, but in an email I got from Adorama they clearly show the pre-order price for the new, smaller version of the 18-300mm VR Nikon lens as only $299.95.

Put me down for a dozen Helen!

I saw the same thing, somewhere. Can't recall, but I was sure it was an e-mail.

Someone must have forgotten when April Fool's was when they went to send out the email.

I wondered why Adorama was laughing at my order. Seems the real price for that lens is $996.95. Almost made me cry. And I really WANTED to NEED that lens.

You DO need it! money is irrelevant. Order it.

Just bought used pristine 18-300 3.5 from contact her on the hog for $750.00 including UV , ND filters. I figure I saved between $350.00 - $400.00 depending on the cost of filters and no sales tax!

Whatever happened to the good old days when you had to eat it if you printed such a mistake. Oh well, we can dream.

When I worked at Radio Shack, back in the 90s, if we put the wrong price on an item, we were supposed to sell it to the customer at that price. Why? Because it was OUR FAULT that the price was wrong.

Steve Stoneblossom: There is a difference in the 18-300 I bought and the one you show in the ad that you posted. The one I have is f1:3.5-5.6G ED VR & the one in the ad is f1:3.5-6.3G ED VR. That is probably why there is about $100.00 difference in price. Still it's still a good buy when it replaces two big lenses that you don't have to lug around. As for the original inquiry about the 299.95 price I still think it's a typo error. Companies have wised up & always print a disclaimer in small print at the bottom of the ad in case that happens. Good luck in trying to get it for 299.95. It ain't never going to happen unless the glass is inferior. I'm attaching two pictures that I took with my lens. Hope you guys like them.

Interesting. It says "new version," but no new specs. B&H has the 18-300mm for $996.

You are looking at the old version. The new one is smaller 3x3.8 67mm filter vs 3.3x4.7 77mm filter, it is lighter 19.4oz vs 29.3oz (as it has less elements 16 in 12 groups vs 19 in 14 groups). It is also slower at f/6.3 on the long end. Also. it only has 7 blades instead of 9 so the bokeh may not be as nice.

I have that lens but it's a 3.5 - 5.6 G ED not a 3.5 - 6.3 G Something is up but better be a real bright day.

The lens is a new, smaller version just announced. Easy to see the difference as the new one actually LOOKS like the DX lens that it is. F6.3 is a result of the smaller 67mm filter size as compared to the original which takes a 77mm filter.

What would the resolution of the new model be on a D800e?

You might want consider reading a few reviews on that lens before charging out and buying it.
