My s/o shoots Pentax and has for decades. He says he likes his K3 just fine.

The AF issue extends back to the Kx, which I owned, but gave to my grandson after Pentax and me gave up on each other trying to fix issue.
Still see many complaints regarding AF. Have no idea if it is an engineering or QC problem, but decided not to move forward with K-5 purchase because of it. Enjoyed playing with a couple of the old MF lenses left over from K1000 days. Some worked better than others, but overall thought modern lenses are better. Wanted very much to move from Canon to Pentax. Thought the Kx was the perfect size camera for travel, although the original kit lens was pretty much crap. Also thought the in camera IS was a minimal effort at best. Do not know if they have improved that as later models evolved. Grandson uses it for video using manual focus and live view. It works well for that purpose.

I have had the K-3 for about 3 months now and love it. No problems at all.

After watching this thread, I see that you got more that 1.5 responses. This is good news, particularly for a site that is 90%+ Nikon/Canon! Since my first post this morning, I checked with some folks in Indiana who are experienced Pentax users and received the highest acclaim for the K3. But, you ought to make up your own mind. I should also mention that the 2012-13 JD Powers buyers satisfaction report for DSLRs gave Pentax 1st place over Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Panasonic, and Sony. When I posted this last year, the Canikon people freaked out!!

I am a Pentax K5-II user, having switch from a Canon 5D.
I love it and find no problems with the focusing, even in poor light. Of course this also depends on the lens that is used.
The weather resistance body & assorted lens are a plus. The other day I went to my granddaughter's rugby game and shot outside in the pouring rain, no problems. The only weather proof lens I have at the moment is a 18-135mm, so it was not the best lens for this purpose. Those pictures can be seen here:

Other pictures can be found scattered the site, and all the ones found in this folder were taken with the Pentax:

I still use a Pentax when I shoot film (amongst others), but I say go for it, the K3 seems to be a big improvement over the K5 in any and all aspects, and the K5 is an awesome camera itself!

I would like to thank everyone for your opinions and advice....My k3 arrived today.......It has a real printed manual.......I'm reading it.... This was my first purchase from B&H and I give them a ***** rating. I wanted to shop local but their help is stupid and their prices are high. B&H had a very sweet deal on the k3.....now all I need to do is figure out the little beauty......thanks again....Now back to reading the War & Piece novel.

hello i just saw this not sure how i missed it but i have had my K3 since April and it is just great. just remember the word glass. i use mostly DA* lenses but also an older Tamron 70-200 f2.8 and an old manual focus Pentax SMC K mount 500 f4.5 and get great results with everything.

I have a PENTAX K3 and I really like it; use it with auto-focus and manual-focus lens, no problem.

I've had my K3 for over a year now and I love it. As previous comments stated, it rocks with the DA lenses. I also have a Pentax FA 35mm F2 lens that works well with it. I shoot outdoors and its an excellent low light camera. I've also have a K5 and have been using Pentax products since 1973. I'm a minority amongst all the Canon users out there. Call it brand loyalty.

I've had mine for about a year now and I would not trade it for any other camera made today. I have used Oly, Canon, and Nikon over the past decade but the Pentax, for me, is the best. I like the menu set up, being able to do a great many multiple exposures, wonderful color, and it fits my hands perfectly. I had the Kx before between a Canon and a Nikon, both very nice cameras, I bought it on a lark because I wanted to but the color and IQ of the Pentax really impressed me. it.So, when the K-3 came out I jumped on it and have never been unhappy with my choice.
