A friend of mine suggests his K3 is shaky in the focus department. Sorry, I see I shouldn't have posted since I'm not a direct owner.

Jc, while I don't own a Pentax at the moment, I did start out in 1972 with an sp500 and the K-1000 and loved those cameras and hope to hear from present owners. The K1000 was my favorite camera period. Thanks for posting this and I will be watching. Love to hear how the new ones are doing.

Shaky meaning sharp focusing problems. He also complains about lens choices. Hope this helps and thanks for being easy on me.

No problem you gave me some good info....I don't want this thread to turn into the can vs nik blaa blaa bs. I'm looking for info on the k3....good or bad. I have done a ton of research and on paper the k3 looks good........but a lot of things that look good on paper don't work in real life.

The Pentax K3 is an Awesome DSLR as are the K5 & K5II's. Buck for buck they are hard to beat, It is more about what glass do you have, to change a system at least in my case would be very costly. I am not sure how well the K3 can tether as I have not tried it yet with the new flu-card.

If you already shoot with Pentax...stay with it. There's nothing the "Big Two" offers that surpasses Pentax. The only thing that Pentax lagged behind the big two is video, even that has been overhauled in the K3. If your into pixel peeping... the K3 is a better camera than the K5 in the photo quality department, the K3 photo's have a little better detail.

I use an entry level Pentax (k2000) and have not had a problem with it. It is basically the DSLR version of the K1000. I have a good variety of lenses as well as the use of my older lenses. The only pictures that come out bad are my fault and not the camera. I do not see how you can go wrong with Pentax cameras. I bought this camera on close out and have not had a good reason to upgrade and I am not a pro-photographer.

Thanks for posting your question. I'm a K5 user and have been planning on a K3 sometime this year as both an upgrade and supplement. The written and video reviews look quite good. The Pentax Forum articles also look good. I've not read or heard anything negative so far. I use both Pentax and Sigma lenses, which are quite good also. Here's what I do know: The K3 has been technically compared very favorably to and even a touch above the Canon 60D and Nikon 7100 (and a few others Nikanon models). Last Fall, I saw a post from a UHH member who had pre-release ordered the K3. It would be interesting to hear his comments at this point. Try conducting a search on "Pentax" or "K3" or something similar.

I am a Pentax K 3 owner and so far I love it I've had no focus or light leak problems at all. I started with Pentax in 83 with the ME super and have been with them since. The new features over my K 5 like the selectable AA filter and new focus system are working out very well. If you have specific question to ask ill do my best to answer for you.

I've shot a K50/18-135 Pentax lens for about six months now, love it. Focus is always sharp, spot on, use continuous focus most of the time for kids soccer and baseball. Shot Nikon D90 for two years, D7000 for two years(still have but don't use) K50 is smaller, easier to use, battery life is shorter than Nikon but adequate for most users. I have always had focus issues at times with the Nikons, even after professional calibration of camera and all lenses. If K3 is better than K50 it is a great camera, plus almost every Pentax lens ever made can be used.

The K3 is an awesome camera. I've used it since it first hit the market and love it! I have been a Pentax user for over 30 years and this is by far the best yet...I started with the ist, then K10, Kx, K30, K5. I doubt that you will be disappointed in the performance of the K3. So put me down as highly recommending it. Good Luck with your choice.
