Just before Christmas I was looking for a 6D and a 24-105 mm
L lens. Camera and Lens were about $2400. Adorama had the camera, lens, SD card, a small case for 1 camera, 50 sheets of Canon 13X19 photo paper, and the pro 100 for about $2500. And that was before the $400 rebate - which came quickly. Love the printer. It does a great job. Ink is not much more than my Epson Artisan 1430. I use PSE12. The greatest difference between the two printers is the interface. And in part it is just a matter that I am use to Epson's interface. You can't go wrong with this printer

Earlier today Adorama had a Canon EOS Digital Rebel T3i 18MP SLR Camera w/ 18-55mm Lens + 75-300mm Lens + UV/CPL/ND8 58mm Filter Kit + Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Printer + 50-Sheets Canon Photo Paper for $897 with $400 rebate bringing it to $497 for everthing with free shipping.

Free shipping is the icing on the cake - and no sales tax.

Oh absolutely. I rarely buy any type of electronics from stores around here like Target or Best Buy (just maybe some small stuff) since Myrtle Beach sales tax is like 9%.
Target had iPads for $50 off but the tax brought it right back to full retail.

It's very difficult for me to avoid sales tax with online purchases.

We are lucky, still a no sales tax state for Amazon and of course B&H and Adorama.

The reason you can't buy a CIS or 'remanufactured' set of inks for this printer is that noone has so far been able (or willing) to replicate the chip that Canon puts in the cartridge to ... well, keep people from selling 'compatible' ink. The difference between my Pro9000 and the Pro1 is that the red and green in the 9000 is changed to gray and light gray. This, they say, improves the look of B&W prints.0

Thus there are only two options for non-OEM ink: 1) Refill kits of just the ink which require a 'chip resetter' developed in Germany and sold by a Chinese company that's based in Britain (our modern world-wide economy is marvelous, no?)(http://www.octoink.co.uk/products/CLI%252d42-Chip-Resetter-for-Canon-Pro%252d100.html) 2) A CIS that has new cartridges into which you somehow transfer the chips from the Canon ones( Chinese company, and in China). I have tried the refilling option and I'm getting too un-coordinated to do it without spilling; Only God knows how I'd mess up transferring the chips. Never mind, I'm going to try it because I simply can't (or won't) afford Canon inks.
I'm still investigating and am hot on the trail of some other possibilities, but as it's Sunday (wish I were in Oz today!) that must wait until tomorrow.
The reason you can't buy a CIS or 'remanufactured'... (show quote)

I had a generic cartridge for an HP 5280, and there was some sort of issue with the chip. I removed one from the empty original, and it snapped onto the replacement.

Mine is still boxed up and I am keeping up my search for CIS to bring printing costs.

I am afraid that you might have to wait a very long time for CIS. My research has uncovered only one Canon Printer that has CIS available and that is the Pro-9000. Apparently there is something about Canon Printers that makes CIS difficult to engineer. I have opted instead for the refillable cartridge option to save printer ink costs.

Yes, I bought this printer (and 50 pack of the 13"x19" paper) through Adorama for $400 and got the $300 rebate in a very timely manner, much quicker than they said it would be. The Printer is excellent and I highly recommend it. I get as good or better print quality than at most photo print shops. I have done numerous Wildlife prints at the 13"x19" size and they are stunning. Everyone thinks I have had them professionally printed. You absolutely cannot go wrong buying this printer. Replacement cartridges run about $125 for the 8, but you get a fair amount of prints before this happens. I'd say get it.

Check out precision color when you get tired of buying the Canon cartridges. I bought their kit and think it is a very good value. Check out their website. It will make you realize how little ink Canon sends you.

I recently bought the pixama pro-100. Does the precision color company products work on my new printer.

Yes! They have a good product that can save a lot of money. The downside for some people is the extra effort you have to go through to refill the carts. Check out the wealth of information on the Pro-100 on their web site. I posted a link to it on a previous post in this thread. Good luck.
