Well-taken shots regardless of what the local pro's are saying.

I think that the pro was correct.

While they are nice amateur level shots...there ARE things wrong with them.

What specifically WAS the negative feedback? Could their feedback have improved these shots? What did they say about them?

Why not use their comments to improve instead of bucking up?

Thanks everyone for your comments. As most of you noticed, the bird house is a little distracting. I honostly didn't notice it until I looked at them on the computer. Thing were so hectic that day with so many other parents trying to capture the moment as well. These are the little things I need to start looking for.

As far as some of the negative feedback I got from the locals, they were just the basics like contrast, over exposed, ect... I did take their comments and tried to improve upon them.

This forum is very helpful in so many ways, that is the reason I posted these pics. I wanted to see how others viewed them and to hear what they would have done different. Thanks again for all the comments.

You did an excellent job!! The local pros are just teed off - maybe because you did better than they could??? Something to think about kiddo. Don't know how to say this without insulting as I have no intent of doing but......seeing anything as good as this from an amateur, a pro of course is going to try to screw you up with bad info - eliminate the competition so to speak. My suggestion.......keep being as good as you are and doing what you know works for you. Let the tux shop use your pics.

First..how in the world could you know that...and second...they had valid suggestions....could it have been they were trying to help by suggesting that the contrast and exposure could have been improved?

Lol...more supposition. As somebody suggested...there is a bird house growing out of the heads in picture #1; a pro would not have posted that and would have taken care of that in camera; not like I would have....which is to not realize it till after I'm home.

OR..gasp! You could use whatever advice the pros are willing to give you to improve and make better images instead of assuming that they are petty, vindictive, dishonest hacks who couldn't have done any better than putting a bird house behind two heads.

Not being honestly critical but only heaping praise doesn't help one become a better photographer...we learn from our mistakes. I'm no exception.

I'm jealous and I'm not even a pro. I also lack imagination. These photos can get critiqued all day long and they will will still be good photographs. I think you did a great job!

I took these pictures last spring with a Nikon D7000 with my 18-200vr lens, I also used a SB800 speed light that was mounted on the camera. f=4, ISO = 400, S=1/60.

I thought they turned out pretty well for my experience level but had some negative feedback from some local photographers. These pictures are of my daughter and her friends before the senior prom. I took them for my own use and was not looking to profit from them at all. After I had them developed the tuxedo rental shop wanted to display a picture of the couples showing off their product. I think this is where the criticism came from. I feel that they thought I was taking business away from them (local photographers), which was not the intent.

I am always looking to improve so any and all feedback is welcomed.

Nice photo's. My only suggestion would be on the first photo of the couple together. I would have liked to have seen a portrait view showing then from head to foot rather then a landscape cropping their lower body.

Photos are excellent. If you were shooting again you might want them to move slightly so the bird house is not directly behind them and rotate your camera so you get their entire body. Over all they are fantastic, locals are jealous.

They're your shots, the birdhouse has to go but then since you're not having to please anyone else they're your memories. As someone said taking critiquing and implimenting it is a learning tool so don't get discouraged, be happy these folks are being honest to make you become a better photographer. By looking at these shots you don't have far to go...........

Having these photos displayed will result in your being called on to shoot other such events thus taking business away from those complaining. Good job and nice bird house.

The garden where they were taken may be interested in posting some of those photos as well.

Visibility is the most important think in getting the word out. Good luck.

Beautiful shots. I especially like the second one. I agree with all the comments made. Let me add that the bird house can be taken out easily, so that's fixable. Kudos for the rest of the shots. I could learn from you.

these are nice. I wouldn't worry about the birdhouse, it's not "growing" out of one of the kid's heads so to me it's not distracting.

I'm sure all of us regulars could play with your downloads, but they're in pretty good shape as is.

good job..nice camera too.
