Please let me know if I should have done something different.
I took these pictures last spring with a Nikon D7000 with my 18-200vr lens, I also used a SB800 speed light that was mounted on the camera. f=4, ISO = 400, S=1/60.
I thought they turned out pretty well for my experience level but had some negative feedback from some local photographers. These pictures are of my daughter and her friends before the senior prom. I took them for my own use and was not looking to profit from them at all. After I had them developed the tuxedo rental shop wanted to display a picture of the couples showing off their product. I think this is where the criticism came from. I feel that they thought I was taking business away from them (local photographers), which was not the intent.
I am always looking to improve so any and all feedback is welcomed.
they are great...the locals are just jealous

These are very pleasant to look at!
Exposure look good.
Great setting.
The birdhouse does not add anything. It may distract, not from from that good looking couple.
The ladies choice of dress color is perfect as is the dress length. Kudos to the Ladies.
Love the guys ties! You can see who is with who.
These young adults are well put together for the Prom!!!

so what is the question again?
I had to go back and look. I didn't catch the bird house first time!
I love them all. Great Job! Beautifully done!
The photos are fine (sans previously mentioned birdhouse and maybe a touch less DOF), but I am unsure what you are asking about the criticism. Did you show these to local photographers? I can't see a group of local photographers getting upset because your photo was posted at tux shop.
Hello,
Please look at those that have too much space remove with better cropping. There are some pictures too bright you might want to tone down a little. I can help make changes if you allow me to make copies and put them through PS5.
Most of your prints are very well exposed but the exposure is on the bright side since the skin tone need to be toned down.
If you are selling them make sure the LAB prints for skin tone not the surroundings.
Good job

From my perspective, I think you did a wonderful job. The locals are just jealous that they are loosing business because someone else tooks such a nice photo and they didn't get paid to do it. That's part of being in business. Take the good with the bad times. I say keep up the great work.
all good shots, handsome group of kids.
Over all great shots with good light and color. I would say the birdhouse growing out of the couples head is the most distracting in all of the shots, and the last two photos when the kids are not centered between the trees. The First group shot, in the second photo when they are centered between the trees is a great shot. All good don't get me wrong, but I see little things like this.
Your pictures are lasting memories and will be cherished forever, Well done!
My philosophy is; if you love the photos and the subject loves them, nothing else matters. Learn as much as you can from as many sources as you can sift out the bad and have fun!
