My opinion is it needs to slowly fade into the sunset. It needs to have regulations that are not going to change on a whim.

It needs stability and knowledge. Both are sorely lacking. It has gone from one extreme to the next.....from a place where you could seek out help and answers to a formal critique section. No one, except the moderator, knows what is acceptable from day to day. And even if you do give an opinionated, proper critique, the moderator can eliminate your comments if they so choose, so that leads one to feel the whole section is an exercise in futility and trying to contribute in any way is pointless.

And don't you know, any constructive conversation on the topic will be derailed before it even gets started, so good luck with this one, W/R

Thank you, that is what I have been saying, it's run so willy-nilly it's almost a joke. I could pop in right now and find feedback that goes against the current rules in place and simply just pats on the back. Their are only a small number of people (1 to 3) that offer any real feedback the rest is just fluff.

N'ski, what in the world is going on with you and Singing Swan? Good gosh, kid, you have demonstrated an uncommon talent to alienate people, from those who tried to submit to the C&A section to those who didn't. Do you realize your responses to Swan now are condescending? How many more people are going to come out of the shadows to finally post their unfortunate acquaintance?

As for accusing anyone of a "lie" that you have never deleted anyone for a tough critique, you have deleted a lot of people for a lot less. Let's not toss around accusations with such blithe abandon...you have been made to eat crow more than once...

Now come on folks,we're back to the original question on the other long thread, is it possible to help the C &A section? section? :) :) :x

It's perfectly clear what went on with Singing Swan and me. We had a difference of opinion. I tried to convey the idea that while I did not agree with her, we could still be friends, and that I would harbor no ill will towards her for disagreeing with me.

She did not see it that way.

You can claim that I deleted for much less, but do you have proof of it? Please stick to the facts.

N'ski, come on now, let's be realistic, deleted facts are deleted facts, lost to all of us....how convenient!! You TOO
have to face reality for everything.

I was not accusing you of anything that you need to apply a retaliatory reply demanding facts. I'm sure you are extremely frustrated both with the state of the section you would like to improve, and the quality of some of the responses you get, please remember not to "bite the hand that feeds you", not with Swan, me or anyone else.

I now offer the unasked-for advice to take a hard look at the flattering support you have had that has not been of any help in the improvements which you say you wish to make. If a ship is listing 60 degrees and about to sink, what
good is it to refuse to recognize it and refuse life rafts?????

My opinions are as follows:

Participation is entirely optional.

An Internet forum critique section will never be as effective as real time, in person critique settings. The vast majority of participants will not have any formal experience or training in art critique, and the comments will reflect this. There will always be an abundance of empty "atta boy" comments, as there will be many rude, disrespectful comments made in the false name of "honesty".. While a bit easier to control in a formal setting, this type of comment will be difficult to eliminate in the online setting. Try to keep expectations realistic, and work to contribute in ways that are constructive.

If one chooses to participate, make an effort to become knowledgable about the conventions of critique. It will help the section while enhancing ones own understanding of photography.

If one chooses not to participate, please move on peacefully.

Hello 8-) (((VERTUAL WHITE FLAG)))
Just a couple of brief questions.
1. By posting my work in the photo gallery and asking for your critique to improve I am incorrect.? (wrong section)

1b. I would need to post in the Photo Analysis section?

2. What are the possible concerns (or remedy's) on/for individuals purposely posting there work they know is flawed in some way on a page designed to carry the photo in perpetuity.
Thank you in advance for your response.

Just keep in mind that you may only post a single image (or a color and B&W of the same image).

If you post an image you are asking for a critique. If you critique someone else's image, explain your reasoning.

I'll keep in mind that all general (off topic) discussion and pats on the back will be remove also.

Mean while, when I become a photographer later, my shit work/learning/mistakes is still readily available and free for public display with one Google search of my name even after I'm dead? :-o Try it, one word, "Pictxterowner" 8-)

Kinda like Cher, Only she's taller. ;)

My other thread got a bit lost so I start this one as a place for people who wish to provide their opinions on the Photo Critique and Analysis Forum.

I will stay right out of it.

Dude I think your onto something man.

I got the two mixed up I posted in but it the same result. a lot of patting on the back no real help sorry selmslie

The virtual thumbs up are "Geared toward" the elder looking gentleman. I would say one is heavily critiqued the other tip toed around.

I'm going to try to step way back away from this now, it is not in my best interest to go back there.

It will be different in my new 3D forum :-D

No reason to avoid critique if you ever want to participate. Simply address the image, not the person.

Probably not since there is nobody here by that name.
