Is there improvements in canon kit lenses. Now vs 3 yrs ago.

Yes, there are improvements! Three years ago Canon did not bundle "L" glass as a kit lens. Now they offer at least the EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS as a kit lens. There are better lenses available, but not many. Most people who buy entry level cameras have no idea how or why this lens works. It is mega over kill. It is also, IMHO a brilliant move by Canon. Canon is luring the serious entry level buyer into the wonderfully vivid and clear world of "L" glass! The 24-105 is photography's version of the McDonnald-Douglass F-4 Phantom. Both do nothing really great, but both do lots of things on a very good level. Both allow the user to attain a certain level of proficiency, one that satisfies yet one that makes you to want more. And neither offer that next level! The F-4? Gone, history. The lens is just beginning. Brilliant

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Lens. These come with 70D. I have the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS, that are approx 4 yrs old. The only difference is the STM. This is more for video, I think. Is it worth getting the new ones?

If you are taking video you want the STM lense. That takes advantage of the dual pixel of the 70d when it focuses. Almost silent.
