I have 2, one old and one rather new, never did a comparison, also never understood why they are so unfavored, could be longer and fastster, but not actually a bad lens, in the old days I've had worse, Bob.

That would depend on what kits you are referring to. The Canon full frames are available with kit lenses which are L's. Probably would be hard to improve on them by too much. I believe that the latest kit offerings, with the 5DIII and 6D, include the EF24-70mm f/4L IS USM. A very fine lens and one of Canon's newest.

I took these shots yesterday with Canon T3i and the lens that came with it: 18-55 mm (purchased Nov 2012). Check #5 (the boot close-up) - jpg, no edits. And that was reduced to about 1 mb file size for upload.

What an interesting question. A good one. I just bought a 'kit lens'. It came packaged with a 5D MkIII. It's the 24-105 'L' lens. If you consider that a kit lens then the answer is yes, though years ago I did have an earlier kit lens that I called my 'plastic wonder.' It was so darn good.
I eventually gave it to my brother who loved it. If your a pixel peeper you may have a different opinion but I'm not one of them. I take pictures and either like the results or I don't. Is there a reason you're asking this question?

I'm considering the 70 d. Comes with 2 lenses. Are they better than the ones that came with me T1i, from 3 to 4 yrs ago. By the way, I have no problem with. Thanks

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Lens. These come with 70D. I have the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS, that are approx 4 yrs old. The only difference is the STM. This is more for video, I think. Is it worth getting the new ones?
