After looking at the UHH postings and perusing the DPReview remember that most stuff out there is initiated by VPs of Marketing and their role in life is to make you dissatisfied with what you have.

So who or what company are you the vp of marketing?

Well, I must say that worked - up to a point. I was under tremendous pressure from the folks on UHH to get a D610 and a D7100. Now that I have them, I am completely satisfied, and I see no new cameras in my future. Really!

Jerry, the future is now, and the battle is joined. Now that you have made a purchase, huge teams of marketers, admen, psychologists, and the empty suits that direct them are busy. Soon you will feel uncomfortable, then you will find your great not-so-new equipment to be lacking in one way or another. Your discontent will grow as an adjunct army of flacks bombards you with "reviews" and "product information." New product model gossip will begin, and slowly rise to unbearable levels; then, wonder of wonders, the "new and improved" model will be announced! Ta Daaaaa. You will rush to your favorite retailer to line up and be the first to own the great new version. KEH will get your old, imperfect, boring, inadequate camera; and I will be waiting to buy it from them at a great price.

I love the free enterprise system. Mercer

Being as how my "operating system" is now Wife Ver 3.0 I have come to the conclusion that it is easier, not to mention cheaper and safer, to keep the wife and get new toys instead.

It's full frame, so you'll have one of each. If someone asks if you shoot DX/FX, you can answer yes to both questions. You can put a tele on the D7100 and get greater range, and you can put a wide angle on the D600. Put one on each shoulder, and you're ready for anything. Both cameras have almost identical controls, so switching from one to the other doesn't require even average intelligence. There are many more reasons, but I've forgotten them.

Enjoy shooting twice as much.

Devil's advocate here. I'm one of those "use it forever and don't replace it until there is a real issue kind of guys" If the issue is to have both a DX and an FX sensor, can't you just set the 610 to DX mode? I don't have one, so I'm not sure. I'm still back shooting with my D-7000 with D-200 as back up for weddings. Just moved to that from D-200 with D-70 as back up when my D-70 shutter died.

Famous last words, at least for me. Bought a Canon 20D in 2006; told wife I would never need another DSLR. After all, who needs more than 8 megapixels? Fast forward to summer 2013: must get into FF and higher megapixels; thus, purchased 6D and the 17-40 L series lends. Now, trying to justify that Tamron 150-600 :-)

One of the primary axioms of Economics 101: human wants and services are never satisfied. :-D

Every industry promotes the value of new equipment.
Fill in the blanks:

You will ___________(ski, play golf, photograph, etc) better
if you buy this new __________(skies, golf clubs, camera, etc).

The good side of this is that through new product development there is usually improvement in the items being offered to the public, the BAD side of this is I keep spending money :D

Very good food-for-thought topic, Jim. No nay-sayers. And I doubt there'll be any. Also, some very clever and funny responses. Thank you all for the chuckles.
Jim, I think you are spot-on!

What? Are you trying to say that need is susposed to figure into all of this? Where are your priorities man? It's about the thrill of the hunt! You crouch in the shadows, waiting to pounce on the brown-hatted parcellink as he nears your door. You wrest from his grasp the treasure he is carrying, disappearing into your lair to the sound of hysterical giggling! The ripping of tape and rending of cardboard echos through the neighborhood, followed by the bloodcurdling howls of passion! How can having money to live on compare to that? :D :D
