This was a great series of shots. Nicely done and it would be nice to know the equipment you used and the settings. these are real treasure

Thank you so much Photobud!!! I was using a Canon 7D with a 100-400L lens. I was in manual. The settings were iOS 200, f5.6, 1/1250. It was clear and sunny outside.

Love that last shot, those lovely, intense eyes, I'm surprise a squirrel would go anywhere near an owl's den, aren't they on the owls' menu?

Thank you Photophile!!! these owls are smaller than most owls so maybe that was the reason the squirrel was more brave.

What an excellent series! The ground squirrel doesn't look like the ground squirrels in San Diego so I did some research on the web. The squirrel in the photos is a "Round-tailed Ground Squirrel", small with short hair.

Thank you so much Wings 42!!! I had to look it up also. I first thought it was a Prairie dog.

What an amazing drama you captured, Terri! Wonderful shots, and I especially love the owl's wing stretch and feather fluff in the third scene.

My husband and I went to the Salton Sea to see if we could find some Burrowing Owls. I was told they came out early in the morning and at dusk. We had a three hour drive so we left at 4 AM. We didn't see anything in the morning but they started coming out of their dens in the afternoon. We saw a couple of dozen or more owls. This squirrel kept trying to get in the owls den. It was funny to watch. We didn't get home until after 9PM. What a fun day! Try the download if possible.

Thank you Dixiegirl!!! I am always amazed when I see something like this. We photographed lots of owls and this was the only one who did this. Of course it was the only owl who had a squirrel bugging him. LOL Terri

Don't know how you got going at 4AM.! Wow! The pictures are outstanding, Terri, especially the last two...and I must say, that's the funniest looking squirrel I've ever seen! Downloads are great!
