You did a mighty fine job on these Terri...I am amazed with the little ground hog or squirrel. He's braver than he appears. The last one is just gorgeous...A real Classic.

Impressive that you got 2 willing subjects in such an adversarial condition. The details are very nice indeed.

Oh my gosh, Terri. First, baby hummingbirds and now these? You are just amazing! These images are absolutely delightful

Thank you so much Linda!!! I was very lucky with both the hummingbirds and these photos!!! Both times I was in the right place at the right time. The difference was the owls were so much easier to photograph. The day was beautiful and sunny. As long as Alan and I were patient we could get nice clear shots of them. Trying to take picture of the humming birds was not fun. When Alan & I saw the squirrel trying to sneak up on the owls we stayed for over an hour and watched. I'm so glad we did.

Thank you so much James!!! I first thought it was a ground hog but I looked it up and the book said a ground squirrel. They must be use to each other because we saw squirrels running around other owls burrows. Usually there were two owls by each barrow. I'm going to find out when they have babies and try to go back. I took so many pictures.

Thank you Stevesott!!! I was very surprised. The squirrels didn't seem to be scared of them. I was lucky that this owl decided to show how tough he was.

Their broods should come in late spring/early summer, IIRC. (I docent BUOWs here, but we only get wintering ones; they don't stay and breed here.)

My husband and I went to the Salton Sea to see if we could find some Burrowing Owls. I was told they came out early in the morning and at dusk. We had a three hour drive so we left at 4 AM. We didn't see anything in the morning but they started coming out of their dens in the afternoon. We saw a couple of dozen or more owls. This squirrel kept trying to get in the owls den. It was funny to watch. We didn't get home until after 9PM. What a fun day! Try the download if possible.

Great images!!! It pays to stick it out.
