As you can see I have a pretty nice Nikon lineup, during the time I had the D800, I used the D2X to compare other than resolution which is really only relevant if anybody prints large which I don't,
The picture quality was pretty much the same, so as long as I can get good dollars back for the D800 I decided to sell it, most other Nikons you loose too much money in resale, the Canon switch is merely an excise to see if I like it more or not.

Yes, I saw the lineup, which is why I was curious what it was being compared to. I am surprised the D2X held up that well, with 7 years and 2 generations of sensor improvements.

Well, last I shot a pro Canon, it banded on gradients. Banding can be handled. Then, I saw PRINTED banding on the cover of the PPA magazine, so I quit that organization. Given my druthers, I shoot digital Hasselbad, but keep the Nikons handy for their alacrity and lack of banding.

When I went DSLR from my OM-1N, having no bag full of legacy lenses, I went Pentax (primarily because of IS in the body, not the lens, so I only need to buy it once). I have no dog in the Nikon/Canon fight.

Both, and Pentax, Olympus, Sony and others make very fine cameras. And in the hands of equally skilled photographers I doubt that either consistently produces better results. For what it is worth, Canon wins in Japan 49% to 42% of DSLR sales.

Did they ask how many shoot with a Leica or Sony or whatever? If they did, I bet that even fewer would raise their hands. But, I don't thin that would make Canon better than Nikon which is better than Leica. Popularity is not a good measure of quality. We're surrounded by examples, including TV shows.

YES! If a particular camera feels good and has menus and controls that become one with your hands it will probably be the best image maker for you. If one looks at the test results a lot of the cameras have very identical numbers. And, by those numbers Nikon rules, at least in resolution. Canon may very well be the low noise leader. Its all relative and a matter of PREFERENCE!

Ah yes Grasshopper; the age old question: is it the rifle or the rifleman? What about Olympus, Sony, Pentax, Aigo, Rollei, Sigma, Yashica; or the Zeiss Super Ikonta B? Some of the coolest shots we taking on the oldest commercial camera: the "Daguerreotype". The photo magicians that created surreal shots gave birth to their creations with some very simple boxes, posing as cameras, and brought their creations to life in a dark closet after soaking in a chemical bath. Whichever rifle you choose, be sure to shoot it straight.

Hi. I really need some help here. I just got back from the WPPI show in Las Vegas. Attended many classes and when one of the instructors asked "Who here shoots Nikon?" I was shocked when only a handful of people raised their hands in a room filled with over 300 people. I shoot Nikon and I asked myself... What am I missing??? As the conference progressed I noticed those shooting Cannon the colors were vibrant, super clear, amazing!!! (We are talking DSLR professional Level cameras) Those shooting Nikon, the colors were dull and did not have the crispness I love in pictures.
Sorry this is so long but I am really battling with this. I own a Nikon D700 which I know needs to be upgraded, but I am really thinking of switching over to Cannon. Yes it is the person behind the camera that makes the difference but after this conference I really think Cannon has surpassed Nikon in technology. Can I please get your thoughts on this and any help you can give me in making my decision. Thanks so much.

I think canon was first to set there sensor K (calibration) to 13% and not 18% like most other cameras. after years of living with 18% gray that yields approx 10% of the dark and bright values re: gray scale, opposed to 33% of those same values offered by a 13% white bal.
The closer you get to true white (summation of all colors) the more pronounced, the colors will be. also canons menu is more user friendly than nikons.

Truthfully there is no significant difference in quality between Nikon and Canon. Besides, many other camera companies/brands are catching up with these two companies. As far as how much easy it is to use either Nikon or Canon, it is a matter of personal choice. After people become familiar with one particular brand camera, it would be hard for them to switch to other brand and to learn the basic setup all over again. It is just human nature. A couple of things you should keep in mind when you analyze the info through this kind of seminars. First, the speakers are usually sponsored by either Nikon or Canon or other photography equipment companies. Therefore the contents of their speech or how they present is more or less biased. Second, nearly all of the beautiful photos present at the seminar have been adjusted in Photoshop or LightRoom or other image softwares. You would always be disappointed if you compare your out-of-camera photos with those in the seminar.

I am a Nikon shooter. I shoot with D3s and D800E and have just about all the major high quality Nikon lens. I like my shots and enjoy using Nikon equipment. But I would not discredit the quality of Canon camera and lenses. Nikon and Canon are not mutually exclusive. You can own both if you like. My suggestion? Keep your Nikon camera and lenses. Your photos would not be worse, if not better, than those from Canon. I always believe that it is not the camera but the people who is behind the camera that can generate the stunning photos.

Here are a few shots from my Nikon camera.
