What camera do you have? Most cameras you press it half way to turn on meters and setting. I have never seen a camera with too easy of a button. What do you mean by lightning?

A lightning trigger is a sensor that triggers camera shutter when lightning is detected. It can be used to open or close the shutter.

Wow, I always thought that the shots were done by opening the aperture and closing it after the lightning strike?

Living in central Florida it is common to experiance thunder storms so I was thinking about getting one. I have followed this product for a few years but I'm not sure if it is worth the money for the shots. I guess it would be a nice gadget to have though.

It works very nicely. The thing that you can do with it, that you can't do very well without it, or a device like it, is capture lightning during the day. Like these pictures.

Does the D7000 have that feature?
There is a 3rd party firmware available for Canon cameras called "Magic Lantern" that will trip the shutter on things like this....brightness variations, or movement or whatever.
it's useful for lightning shots.

The lightning trigger is a separate device from the camera. I don't believe that there is a camera with it built in to my knowledge. Here's a link.

Google a bit, and you can find some instructions for making your own lightning trigger. Need to be handy with electronics, though.
