I used to fish up by you... I quite a bit south of Saranac and Lake Placid. Pretty country both here and there.

I saw a video that compared GoPro to other cameras of the same type and the outcome was that GoPro was the best.

BTW, I saw that the GoPro, I think the Black, is selling at BJs for $229. I'd like to try that one. Gotta save a few dollars.

They use them on quite a few reality shows. Pretty sure I saw a few on that show "Gold Rush" on Discovery.
A GoPro Black edition is on my wish list, right after I purchase a D610, a new IMac 27" and possibly having to replace my 10 yr. old 36" plotter. Soooo close I can taste it.

Yes. Definitely on Gold Rush, and, if you watch Top Gear, they use it there all the time. That's the the GOOD Top Gear, from England, not the US version.

Sam's Club $229 for the Silver

Amazon also has it for that price, so it must be a temporary sale.

I want to photograph you taking pictures with a bridge camera at 500 feet without a plane, helicopter or being in a building.

I had mentioned this on another forum of trying to take pictures during a Hollywood parachute jump. It was winter and we were jumping from 800'. I had smuggled an old Kodak Brownie camera with me and by the time the chute opened, I got stabilized, and the camera out, my hands were so cold I couldn't even get off one picture. Would love to have had a GOPRO back then but that was about fifty years before their time.

heys here's another vote for the JVC camera - I shot a couple of hours of video of duck and goose hunting and very happy with results I have been editing my footage lately to get a youtube video done and posted.
Next year I will mount it on the dog for the "dog eye view" of fetching ducks and geese, should be fun

I have a ealier go pro version before the wi-fi. It takes incredible video, very little shake. I use it on my dirt bike and off-road vehicle. My version does not have wi-fi so there is no way to see where it points if it is too high or low this is especially critical when I mount it to my helmet. The mount does not have a protractor on it to be able to set the angle the next time i use it. This is where the wi-fi would be great, you could use a smart phone as a viewfinder. I bought a lcd screen for the back ($80.00) which works as live view but cannot see it with my helmet on. One more thing is once you get 4 hours of video you will need to edit it down to a watchable length. This has a learning curve on its own. I love the product the sharpness and lack of vibration is incredible. I bought mine about a year before the wi-fi version came out , I wish I had waited. One more thing is any accessory add on seems to be $80.00, I have aux lcd screen and add on battery for extended life. This brings my total up to $460 invested. As for the 2 button control it is not too hard to use. I set mine up the night before or on the ride out. Then I mount it, one is power to turn it on the other is to start rolling video. If you are willing to edit the video it is a great product and for $300 it is cheap for what you get with the wi-fi you can use a smart phone as live view (my only real concern with using it) I would suggest the version with multiple mounts as you wont have to purchase additional mounts ( which is where the cost can add up)

I read pros and cons about the GOPRO Black edition camera and just wanted to hear views from anyone here if they use this camera for pics and or videos. Seems most of the comments I find on the web are pro in nature and that the PICs are excellent and sharp. I find that hard to believe considering the cost is so little. I guess that for around $400.00 it might be worth a 'shot' or 2.

My perception is that the GoPro was developed for people doing exciting things to strap the camera to their body or helmet. Seeing as I no longer do exciting things, when I see one in the store, I just sigh and walk on.

I don't have any first hand experience with them but I've done my homework. I've check a lot of youtube videos and watched many comparisons. I plan to buy one for a trip I have planned for the Galapagos Islands. I'll be using it for the snorkeling adventures. I'm sure that the GoPro will do fine for taking stills and video under water. I've looked at other options and they don't make sense to me for a 3 week vacation. An underwater enclosure for a DSLR is very expensive. I could get a Canon G15 point and shoot and an underwater enclosure but this would cost almost twice the money of a GoPro. There is two Black editions of the GoPro and the + model has some slight improvements in low light and sound recording. Go for the plus (+) model.
