I read pros and cons about the GOPRO Black edition camera and just wanted to hear views from anyone here if they use this camera for pics and or videos. Seems most of the comments I find on the web are pro in nature and that the PICs are excellent and sharp. I find that hard to believe considering the cost is so little. I guess that for around $400.00 it might be worth a 'shot' or 2.
there were issues with the software. it been taken care of, just load the update onto sd card, and transfer it to camera. if you get an older 3, new ones have update.
this is at 500 ft.

My grandson saved his money and got a GoPro and I have played with it for a few minutes only. The impression I got is that it is a very good still and video camera, with a lot of nice features like waterproof, shock resistant, cold/heat tolerant, etc. It can transmit to, and be controlled by, your computer or smart phone. The problem I found is there is a steep learning curve. This is not something you pick up and start using immediately. It has to be set up and programmed to your other devices and this takes a lot of reading and playing around. The videos, strapped on your bike, car or head, and not using a tripod are, as you can imagine, very jerky. I would go for a weatherproof bridge camera before I went with a GoPro. Just my personal thoughts.

my son does it all the time , it's clear not jerky . but he used to teach snow
boarding .
My son also has one, used it for Scuba diving, snowboarding, snowmobiling, bike and what have you. The videos are amazing, crisp and clear. He didn't have any problems with turning it on and using it for the first time. The software did have some glitches at first, but we rectified those easily with the updates. The mounts are versatile and make any adventure you have easy to capture. He did use his cell phone to remote start and stop the video with no problems; he now has the remote.
If you are looking for a camera to capture your adventures, this is a great one to have. If you are looking for a camera to take lots of stills - then I may look at others to take your stills.
Remember this camera is for a certain niche not for everything.
It is a fun little camera....GP
I want to photograph you taking pictures with a bridge camera at 500 feet without a plane, helicopter or being in a building.

I bought a new GoPro Hero 3+ Silver last week. I am very impressed with the video quality & it takes pretty sharp stills, too. Mine worked fine straight from the box without updating. The main difference between the black & the silver seems to be the Wi-Fi side of it (I am not interested in Wi-Fi, so I bought the silver--IQ is about the same with both models). Here is a pic I took with it late yesterday in 'golden hour. It is heavily cropped.

I think the BBC uses them for certain shots. Looks like GO-PRO'S on Steve Backshalls Kayak in his Deadly Pole to Pole seires for CBBC. I'll have to ask him next time I see him.
They use them on quite a few reality shows. Pretty sure I saw a few on that show "Gold Rush" on Discovery.
A GoPro Black edition is on my wish list, right after I purchase a D610, a new IMac 27" and possibly having to replace my 10 yr. old 36" plotter. Soooo close I can taste it.

Right. You see them being used on TV all the time. Do you watch Mythbusters? They must buy them buy the dozen.
I have the original model, and it's frustrating making all the changes using just two buttons and tiny tiny icons on a very small LCD. The newer ones are supposed to be better at that.
They sell accessories to mount them onto virtually anything, and they can do video, still, time lapse, and fast and slow speed (the new ones).
I should have had one years ago when I was riding a motorcycle, going out in boats, and scuba diving. I wish I had more use for it. Sticking one on my head while I use the computer would not be very exciting.
Take a look at JVCs action camera. You get more bang for the buck with similar guality. It also has an f/1.8 lens and is more water proof with out a case. I use the wi fi with my cell phone when I clip it to the fence at the softball games to trigger pics and zoom in the video and start filming.
