I have only bought from Abe's of Maine once years ago and was not happy. I had ordered a Nikon Speedlight and was assured it was a Nikon USA light. When I opened the box I found a gray market light. I called them and was told it was the same light and they would send me the USA warranty information. I insisted they take the light back and send me another light with an enclosed USA warranty. They did but I should not have had to go through all of that when I had insisted on a USA warranty to begin with. The salesman flat out lied.

Thanks - this may be the way to go. I would like to find out the shutter activations first though.

I am looking to get a Nikon d7100 and noticed Abe's had a good price. Has anyone ever dealt with this company? Feedback??

I've bought several cameras, lenses and flashes from them. Never a problem. If they do try to upsell, (never happened with me) just say no.

do a search on them and I don't think you'll want to have a business transaction with them.

Remember the old adage , if it sounds to good to be true, most likely it's not .
Just remember too, you get what you pay for .

Just wondering: When someone says, as you did, "You get what you pay for." Is that another way of saying that it is impossible for you to get overcharged?
If I pay more for the same item, will my item be superior to the one that costs less?
Did someone just fall off the turnip wagon?

Sometimes I think my wife has that theory. Don't tell her I said that please.

I've bought a number of things from Abe's, including lenses, camera bodies and tripods. I bought my equipment at their only physical brick and mortar store location which is in Edison NJ, only 10 minutes from my house. While I am aware of some of the bad press they occasionally get, they were always fair to me, never hassled me, had a liberal return policy and every item I purchased had a US warranty. They may sell some grey goods (imports) at a lower price, but so does B&H and Adorama. Just confirm it when you make the purchase.

I'm not sure what "grey goods" are. Could someone explain?

Grey Market refers to items sold without a USA warranty. Nikon will not repair these items if you attempt to turn them into them for repair work. Accordingly, they are usually priced less than items sold with a USA warranty. Most large retailers like B&H, Adorama, KEH, and Abe's sell both grey market, also called import, and USA items. It's best to ask when you are making the purchase.

Thanks. As always, UHH provides an answer.

If you can manage, go to a local brick and mortar. With Nikon's latest pricing policy, you will not get much of a better deal there or on-line. The exceptions are gray market, re-furbished or used. But for those, I would want to see the actual item. KEH is a notable exception for used, their ratings are quite conservative. Their E+ items looked like they were just taken new, out of the box. If you have an issue with the item, they pay for shipment back to them. I've heard that Adorama and B&H have similar policies, but I've never used them.

Thanks for the replies - I think I may just stick with my old standby - B&H.

I use B&H exclusively--never a hint of a problem. Also, have heard from others that Adorama is equally good.
