I don’t know. I can see the use for low- or high-angle shots, but personally I haven’t had the need (so far) to do that. Or, for video, it’s nice to have the articulating screen. But video, for me, is secondary. My main purpose is for still photos. And in the 50 years or so I’ve had a camera in my hands, I’ve never needed to get really low to the ground or hold my camera over my head. For those who do, and who knows, maybe I might find a reason to do that one day, it’s a good features.

I also see the articulating screen as one more thing that has the possibility of breaking. That being said, I can’t think of a single instance of someone reporting that their articulating screen did actually break off. So… maybe that’s a moot point.

KB, since you've only been shooting for 50 years, then there is still time for you to do all of the above.
And every photographer, should in their lifetime, shoot with an f1.0 lens!
The good thing is, you still have plenty of time left to do that.
So at least, position yourself to have that oportunity!! ;-)

I can’t disagree with you. I feel I’m just getting started (with Digital, that is, I am!).

Still, I miss my old Nikon F and FE2. No autofocus, no “focus points”, no “effects” and tricks, no “burst rate”, no HDR, etc.

Oh well. Time marches on.

Yep!

The key is to march on with it as opposed to just being marched on. ;)

I am getting extremely fed up with these Nikon/Canon wars, every single day without fail there will be many posts about these cameras which are of no interest to owners of other makes. In the process two new members "kurtinnj and Donkas" are threatening to leave because of the various adverse comments made by certain Nikon and Canon owners.
It's about time you created your own section.

Thanks for all the comments. I do not take offense to the comments about the spelling. I should not have been in such a hurry and not proofread my post. I think I will go to a camera store and hold each camera and others and talk to a salesperson who is not biased towards either one. I am not one of the new members that will leave because of the comments about spelling. Everyone has their opinion about cameras, but I have received much good information about different cameras.

While I tire of seeing the "fan boys" posts, for new members to threaten to leave because of the back & forth, is being a bit overly sensitive. On just about every forum I've ever visited ,that is a "general" forum where all brands are considered, these types of "wars" are commonplace... If they leave, good luck on them finding a forum such as this type where that type of behavior isn't present...I try to simply ignore it, except when the poster makes an obvious exaggeration...As for misspellings, we are all guilty of that at some point...Get over it.

I agree. For 140 years there was a certain purity in photography, because you essentially had a black box, film, and a lens. Then we had a certain amount of improvement with SLRs, built in light meters, and then aperture/speed priority, and then autofocus. National Geographic, Sports magazines, and glamour photography survived without digital and all the technology. Legends like Ansel Adams, and Alfred Isenhouf, and his Leicas, survived without all the technology. I will quickly add I love digital, and would not want to go back to film, but we seem to be chasing technology more than skill required to use them.

What I don't (can't) understand is why people threatening to leave actually think it's a threat anyone takes seriously, as though some grand pronouncement that, "I'm gonna leave this forum if you're all not nicer to me," is any kind of threat at all. For God's sake, just LEAVE if you don't like it here. No one is going to miss you, and somehow this forum will stumble along without you. It's not like you're a dues-paying member; this is all voluntary.
I've read stuff here that pisses me off too, but I try to just pass on it and go to what interests me.

Exactly. Anyone who is offended to the point where they can’t take it and have to leave needs to get a thicker skin and deal with it. As I posted earlier, this is no different than people arguing which is better, Ford vs. Chevy or UCLA vs. USC, etc. My dog is better than your dog. Who cares?

I, too, have learned a lot. Yes, I’m a Nikon guy, and will always be one. I don’t get mad when someone who owns Canon tells me theirs is better. I don’t care. It’s all in good fun.

As you say, good luck finding any other such group where this kind of thing doesn’t occur.

And as has been said before, there really are no “bad” cameras out there, whether Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Pentax… whatever. I don’t knock any of them, and I take no offense when someone takes a jab at my brand.

I agree. Let’s grow up. But, by that, I don’t mean cut the “flame wars”. I kind of like them. Those who are complaining need to dial it back a bit.

I didn't threat to leave. I like this forum, it's better than most. Most of you missed my original point, it was not about camera brands.

Buy the best model of both and spend your life comparing them. Please let us know, so we will then know for sure which is better.

I'll be busy in the mean post-processing my images, which is always necessary to create the best image as has been the case since darkrooms. It almost doesn't matter which camera is best in the digital age where we now manipulate zeros and ones to create almost any image desired.

One hundred and fifty years ago cameras did not even exist, and 50 years from now they will be replaced with capture systems that do not use lenses. Lenses mess with photons in so many ways that prevent creating the perfect image--which does not exist. We can only compare! I do it for religions, governments, and people. I don't compare or comment on cameras, iphones, telescopes, or the eyes of other people.

Sorry, the professor has gone on again.

John, if it's of no interest to you, then just get back on the porch!
And if we created our own section, not much would change, cause then the twelve of you that are left sitting on the porch, just like little kids at a scary movie, you'd still be peeking through your fingers while your hands are over your eyes.

I'm not gonna go back and look, but I don't recall any derogatory remarks. And the OP, asked about Canon and Nikon, so the discission somehow seems somewhat invited, if not appropriate.
Now I understand that the twelve from the OlyPanTaxSon refugee camp don't have much to do, so they crash the party and try to hijack the thread(as you just did), but, I didn't hear the OP complain, so I guess it's all good! I guess.
John, just chill out, but as you can see, we Canokin guys are just a passionate lot! ;-)
John, hey, I'm just ribbing ya.
