Actually both spellings are accepted as correct. Just google lense and see what you get.
LENSE is so correct, you see it everywhere in Ansel Adam's writings, and Kelby's, and Peterson's, and Ang's, ...and... oh, no, sorry, you don't. It seems like every photographer that makes the typical UHH member get a camera hard-on spells it "LENS". Only Brits who learned it in 1925 spell it LENSE. What does that tell you?

[quote=CaptainC]Like it or not, the way you write/talk is a reflection on your education and intelligence. At the very least is is an indication of your attention to detail: do you re-read your post before hitting "send?"

    That is absolutely correct in any business setting.

What about bring and take.
You bring something here.
You take something there.
2 different places, they're not the same.

As an x-teacher of English, I admit that bad grammar upsets me. Bad spelling also upsets me. I try really hard to understand that to most people it doesn't matter. But I spend a lot of time in a world where it does matter. Personally I think if you want to be respected in any world, your grammar matters. Having said that, I hope that all of you to whom it doesn't matter won't throw eggs at me!

I also realize that sometimes when one is typing quickly before their morning coffee and don't stop to proofread their comment, mistakes happen.

What I don't understand is when grammar used by people because they think it makes them sound cooler.

It's kind of ironic how we care so much about correcting others typographical errors on here, yet we don't pay any mind to verbal grammar. How many have heard people say "ya wanna", Ya gotta", "ya hafta", You shoulda". It's all street "tawk" so lets ease up on each other unless we are competing in a spelling Bee.

Ya gotta understand the difference between consciously using a colloquialism versus sloppy grammar. I can communicate clearly and still use ain't, gotta or gonna in a sentence. I do it to shade the meaning I'm trying to impart. I do it because I don't want my writing to sound stiff. Or maybe I do it because it's the way I actually speak.

I'm not bothered by the bad grammar, really, excepting the stuff that looks like text messaging shorthand. If I have to read it two or three times to decode I'm moving on to the next post.

So I'm guessing you didn't re-read your post before hitting send, otherwise you would have changed "is is" to "it is" in your comment about paying attention to detail.

"Of coarse" I agree with you. Now if only we could get them to understand that one piece of glass is a lens (not lense).

Then what's a lense?

Different people have different skills, so if I find someone who has a skill that I'm interested in, I will overlook grammar and spelling problems, especially on the Internet in informal situations like UHH.

Now if I'm reading an article on grammar and spelling, I would expect there to be no grammar and spelling errors.

When I'm reading articles about sports and the author quotes statistics, I expect those statistics to be correct.

When I'm reading articles about plants, I expect the plants to be identified correctly.

Etc.

Otherwise, I just say:
