Thank you, but I've read a bizzillion reviews and watched every video I could find before I asked the question. I'm truely sorry I asked. I promise I won't be asking again. Oh, I'm retired too.

Here's the deal, between those two cameras you just can't make a bad choice so just pick the best deal and go for it. One thing you may consider is if you have any friends that shoot one or the other it may open you up to borrowing lenses from each other.
BTW If you just give your skin a little time to thicken up a bit you'll learn a bunch here and and have some fun to boot. If somebody gets a little snarky with you just give it right back. There are a lot of beginners here so just don't let the snots discourage you, just blow your nose and move on.

Well having now read 6 pages of responses, my advice, go with the Sony mirrorless, the camera of the year.

Kidding! Though I suppose it is very good.

Anyway I'd say look at the Nikon if there might be a chance that down the road you'd like to move to a full frame camera. With Nikon you'll be able to take the crop frame lens with you as the work on the full frame. Not so with Canon. Image quality will also be better on the Nikon out of the camera because of will a lot of factors. The Canon cameras typically do have better low light capability because at the higher ISO's you don't see as much noise.

Also step back from the camera a little because what you are really buying is a system and that needs as much if not more consideration. Or what the heck just flip that darn coin. (Just remember pick tails, it never fails).

Good to have you here at UHH

Deb, Deb, Deb... Can I call you Deb? :) Like I said earlier, rent them both and get a good feel for them. They both have a different fit in your palm.

Or, do what I did, I called ahead, spoke to Jeff and asked if they had the D7100 in stock and if could I try it out. I went to Berger Bros. in Amityville on a Saturday just after noon. He set up the camera for me and told me to go to the park down the street. Since he was joking with me the whole time, I gave it right back and asked him how long I had before he called the cops. Without skipping a beat, he said 'Closing time'.

I found the camera easy to use. Granted I left most of the menu alone as I had a few hours, not days. But things just felt natural for me. Bracketing was a snap. Changing ISO was easy without going into the menu.

I left with the camera. :)

Don't get caught up in the Canikon war. Its been brewing since I was in diapers and I'm old.

I have seen what the Canon 70D can do and honestly, I'd say they were fairly equal. The Nikon was better here and there and the Canon was better there and here. You just have to feel them in your hands.

If we can convince you to stick around, when you use "Quote Reply" for a response to a specific post, it is included in your post and easier to follow the thought. :-)

The reason this particular thread got so far out of control is that you asked about two specific cameras which are so close that the difference is hard to find. I don't usually like the "which feels better" approach, but when all else is equal, that is what's left.

I haven't read the thread, but google Scott Kelby and why he switched to Canon. I don't know if he was looking at the 70D, though. It's basically for the faster focusing.

Each post is in it's own box. At the bottom left of that box, near the poster's picture, are three links: Reply, Quote Reply, and Report Issue. If you click on Quote Reply, it will go to a page with a box to type your reply, and at the top it will fill in the "quote" of the post you are replying to.

BTW, it is also good to not use square brackets anywhere in your post, it confuses the forum site software. The exception is if you are including tags, like bold. The tags are listed on the left of the text box when you click on Reply or Quote Reply.

He switched to the 1DX, which is spectacular. He also likes the 5D Mark III. Either that, or Canon gave him both. :-)

Hello. I have the the 70d, and my favorite part of the 70d is the articulating screen. I was on a photo shoot with a pro photographer who was a Nikon shooter. He was very helpful to me in taking photos. But couldn't help with gear. I know he was behind me for a shot when I put my camera on the ground swiveled the screen so I could see it with out laying on the ground. His comment about a Canon might be in his future was said to another Nikon shooter. The other Nikon shooter said he couldn't see the need for the articulating screen until that moment. He had just bought his Nikon. So I'll say it again, I Love The Articulating Screen !
I hope you find this helpful.

Hello. If you go to his blog and look at his gear list, a 70d is on it. I haven't seen any post from Scott Kelby about using the 70d.

I love my 70D. The touch screen is a very nice feature as well as the fast 7fps. I do wish it had dual card slots but that is my only complaint! Over all a great camera...
