And I thought, somebody did discover some new stuff about those two, so we all could learn new things. When you asked a question like that, I think you should include more information, like what are your intentions (photo wise), and what exactly do you expect from a camera. That would help to narrow it down and make it easier to throw in some opinions!

I thought it was worth a watch, basic though it may be...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItEwu3dNr2IHaving the D7100, I will tell you that the 6 fps is BS when shooting RAW and jpeg after that first second. To get that rate, I had to switch to jpeg only. But it does do it as large/fine.
I don't have the Canon, so no comment on the fps.
Both are capable of top quality photos, debi. The best thing to do would be find a shop, or big-box, etc. where you can handle both to see which appeals to you. Check the overall "feel" and try some of the controls to see if you find one a little easier than the other to work with.
Good luck with whichever one you choose!
Speters I'd like to say I'm sorry...... but nah.
michael66. Thank you for your input. This will be my first real digital camera. I have much to learn. Shot film decades ago then life got in the way. This is a whole new world. The Canon seems to be geared toward video which I'm not interested in. Being a beginner I like being able to see what the approximate pic will look like with my AP/sh/ISO choices on the touch screen. I used a Canon F-1 back in the day. Thanks again for being generous with ur input.
danilo. Thank you for you input. I'd love to get these in my hands but I don't have any "real"camera shops around here. I've read so much and watch so many videos about them and I want some of what's in both. This is my first investment into a DSLR. Guess I'll toss a coin. Appreciate ur being kind to a beginner

I'm not a brand person but a camera person and the "experts" that do reviews and comment on the comparisons always say Canon for better video and Nikon for pic quality...

Deb, I'll let others debate the cameras. But the Canon will give you access to 200 lenses, including the fastest auto focus lenses in the world.
I shoot a Canon ONLY for the lenses. What else is there?! ;-)

Sx2002 Australia huh? Its warm down there now. Jealous. Thanks for the input. I'm not into video but I've always leaned toward Canon in the past,as is my problem ;)

If video is off the table then my opinion is the D7100 would be the better choice...as always JMHO.

Deb, you've always leaned with a good intuition. ;-)

Sharpshooter. Ya know, I've spent so much time on this. I've always been a Canon person and the ratings seem pretty equal. I'm a bit nervous buying new tech as is in the 70D. But I haven't heard any complaints yet and its been out awhile now. I think I've made up my mind.
Thanks to all for ur advice
