I was a marketing consultant for more than a few years (word of advice...don’t quit your day job to become a consultant). And ALL of the above suggestions are good ideas...

I only had one client in your line of work...and I do remember that her target market was women 18-34...she did a ton of mother/daughter work.

Unless you willing to offer a pretty good discount in a mail campaign...(2 for 1 etc.dont do anything for free) it might be a little out of your price range. But there is no harm in checking it out. Mailing lists are not that expensive...its what you do with them that costs cash...for instance are you going to send out a full color postcard with examples from your portfolio?? Also keep in mind that if you are going to go direct mail...you don’t have to send the entire list all at once...you can stagger the mailings to fit you budget...when I was in the business the response was between 3% and 5%...that’s calls...not sales.

But in the final analysis...if you’re on a strict budget...there is no substitute for leg work...all of the suggestions above are great for handshake encounters...

Don’t forget Real Estate agents...

Good Luck!

As I slowly slide back into the tarpit of marketing...

Is there a networking group in your town...a monthly meeting or so when pros get together to exchange ideas and contacts...??? You might find a bank manager that need new pics of the people who offer free checking and charges $5.00 a month for your debit card...

And offer gift certificates...

Ok back to the REAL WORLD....NOW!

Go to INFOUSA and ask them to provide you with a Mailing-
list for your area and give them special interest topics.
I know there specific info is always quite accurate. And the price for the Info is not bad either.

some hair salons will do a package deals of getting your hair, makeup and Glamour shots. Check with some in your area. If they don't you may can offer a good deal where all parties will make out some. The big thing you get your name out. Also check for Pure Romance or Slumber party consultants in your area. They do all girl party (if you know what I mean), they get questions from time to time about pictures. The big thing is word of mouth and get your portfolio seen.

I just want to add to the hair salons idea (I got this idea from a book by a senior portrait photographer)... Offer the salon to do the employees' portraits for free. They can display the most modest or conservative of poses at their station in poster size and hold your business cards and fliers for you in turn. If not poster size, something not as large, but noticeable.

Just checked out your website. Nice photos.

You may want to do some free sessions with a few friends or relatives who are your average, everyday woman, even over their 40s. Pick some that aren't in the best of shape. Every woman wants to be sexy. I just turned 45 and if I was looking for my portraits to be taken like this, my question would be, "What can she do for me? Can she make ME look good?" That way, you'll be catering to EVERYONE and not just the young and fit. On your ads and fliers, you can even do some before and afters.

Just throwing some ideas on the table.

Post your AD on craigslist also

I second this. Also, here in CA we have a local ad paper called the Penny Saver. It's deliered to all homes in my county. Watch your junk mail and see what is delivered to your home every week and see about placing an ad in that.

YOUR BEST ADVERTISING IS WORD TO MONTH. Business cards hand them out like candy. How news paper and hand bills keep it clean. Use the word GLAMOUR PHOTOGRAPHY don't use the word BOUDOIR its the same as NUDE. When you have someone that wants something then tell them, you also like do boudoir for there sweet heart, lover, or what ever.
What I'm saying is keep its clean. Take one of your photos clean
one and put it on your busines cards and advertising, use it as your logo.
I find a lot of videos on this on youtube check it out, a little help will help a lot.

This one is sending you down the right path. You can make more money off a 35 then a teen.

Two things to look at...1....if your flyer has been taken down or an ad rejected, it may be because someone thinks it is too racy. Fine a good friend who is very conservertive and ask their opinion. Tone down the ad if needed. and 2.....the total opposite.....if you have any `adult toy stores` around place your raciest ad there! Play to the targeted audience.
