Number 3 photo is one of the best explanations of flying in ground effect I've seen.
I'm so glad you like it Larry. Thank you.

Joe crystals are in the air. my big problem is I can't see well enough to maul focus so using auto focus I loose a sharp focus. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Great shots, all of them. What a beautiful bird and a great capture by you.

Hi Rod,
I don't know any wildlife photographer who shoots in manual focus. I can't imagine homing in on a flying owl and trying to adjust my lens manually. Stick with AF.
I live in the same area as you so experience what you do.
All I can suggest is that you keep the sun over your shoulder. Have as much light on your subject as you can get. Having your subject backlit will only exacerbate the problem.
Hope this helps a little.
Joe
I believe the great gray owl is more of a daytime hunter than other owls. I've seen one just once.
