Pentax is where it's at, particularly with the K3. There, I've said it! (on a predominantly Canon/Nikon membership site).
if ya gotta do (yuch) digital, Pentax is really the best of the lot. and this is from a (alpabetical) hasselblad, leica, nikon owner. oh yes, all film, of course.

Go to the Photo Gallery and see if you can figure out what kind of camera took the photo. As someone said between the two you mentioned Nikon and Canon you can't make a bad choice. Just go with the one that feels best in your hands.

Nikon doesn't shoot video at all, which I am concerned with. But to try and start my own business...should I really be concerned with that aspect?
Which do you believe is better and why?
I don't know, where you get your information, but Nikon is actually at the fore front when it comes to video.
I am given to understand that there are more than six camera manufacturers that produce a camera that is capable of producing pictures acceptable to most if not all photo buyers.

Absolutely, and that's what they said about the telescope.

That may well be the case. There are however only two manufacturers who provide professional photographers with the range of bodes and lenses, and the support, to allow them to work. One is called Nikon, one is called Canon.
The rest of the manufacturers invest in enthusiasts - no criticism intended - but do not provide the level of support a pro photographer needs to be able to rely on.
At the winter Olympics right now Canon and Nikon have a physical presence to support their users. The only support Sony, Olympus et al supply is at the airport duty free shops where they sell their kit.
The original post asked for recommendations for professional suppliers. Not recommendations from enthusiasts determined to promote their own personal preference. You do not have to make your living out of this. We do.

Yes - a good post - I see your position - but this type of support is not a lot of good to the travel photographer in the Himalayas?

Nikon has a support center on top of Mt. Everest, right next to Starbucks.

Goofy, the last time I was there, it was actually a Canon support center. The Nikon guy was only there to get coffee and stay out of the cold while he was waiting for the Nikon dogsled to take him home since he had no business. There was one guy came through with a Nikonos, but he was horribly lost!!

If you go to the CPS site, somewhere there is a schedule of what events the CPS will be at with full support, or possibly limited support as well. ;-)

I remember last month, one of the 800 pound Nikon fanboys was going on-and-on that the new D4s was going to be announced at the Olympics.
Well, tonite is the opening ceremony, man they really like to cut it close don't they?! Or did I miss it ;-(
