Here is another comprehensive resource which may be helpful. One confusing issue that took me a while to figure out - The Nikkor series "E" lenses are AIS lenses that predate the later series "D" AF lenses. A bit confusing if you think that lens series with a higher alphabetic letter designation is a newer lens, it isn't always so!

A question for the Nikon people - With a D7000, is there any practical difference between an AI or non AI lens ?? Thanks .....

Hello,

MT Shooter noted to me when I asked a similar question that non-Ai lenses will not give an in-focus confirmation dot or a beep as an AiS lens will. His answer was in reference to home-made Ai lenses. If the lenses are professionally Ai'd they may indeed work. At the bottom of Ken Rockwell's chart a man is listed who does Ai'ing resonably. Check it out.

So, if they are converted to AI - then they will work ?

You should check out the website I sent earlier - aiconversions.com/.... my lenses are over 40 years old and now they are useful again.

Imagemeister - for you and others who have an interest in this topic Thom Hogan provides a very detailed and helpful insight into Nikon lenses old and new, and the cameras they will or will not function with, on this page of his website .......
