Whether or not it is the law, it is still a good idea to always ask to speak to a representative in the United States. I have been doing this for years. If I get static from them I simply hang up & dial again & start the process all over again. Eventually I get to talk to someone in the United States. I know most of you probably don't have the time to waste doing this, but I'm old and really don't have much else to do except create problems for Mujibar in India. :-D

I once jokingly asked a rep how the weather was there in Bangladesh....she immediately replied; "I'm in New Delhi"!

Can't say how many times I have called and can't understand a thing they are saying. When you ask to repeat they get mad. So good to know this

Wouldn't you prefer to be told the truth? There is no law or requirement for such US call centers and all attempts of passage of such a law have failed to gain support in congress.
Globalization in the corporate world is another means to reduce costs and hire cheap labor to replace US Customer Service costs and benefits.
But, if you're one of those people that believes that everything you read on the INTERNET is TRUE, I hear there's a nice toll bridge for sale between Manhattan and Brooklyn. Price reduced and seller is motivated. LOL.

Hey, it was a joke. I'm one of the most frequent debunkers of internet nonsense on this forum, usually with Snopes as my backup. Anyone with half a brain could tell that this smelled funny, but someone beat me to it. But I would have loved to believe this one.

When you get the US Rep., they are just as hard to understand
With the TV blaring, kids crying, and dogs barking in the back
ground.

I did that once with HP support, I was transferred to the US and got a rep who was worse than the first one. I then asked for a rep that spoke English and he had no idea what I was talking about.

They import them here under special visas, claiming there are no US citizens willing to do the work. What a crock!

Although the practice is not yet legislatively mandated, some U.S. companies have established policies and procedures of their own that instruct foreign call center operators to transfer calls back to U.S.-based reps upon customer request.

I bought one device where the call centre was actually in America, not only was the dialect and accent of the person there almost impossible to understand, the information was crap. Unfortunately his supervisor was also in the USA.

I recently needed help with some software and the helpline was answered by an American in the USA. I could not understand his accent or dialect well and his attempts to solve the issue failed. His supervisor was no better either. On balance I've had much more success with helplines served by India and surrounding countries.
