Iowa City. Highway 218 south of me has quite a few. Highway 1 going west, several.

Barn quilt trail sounds interesting, especially if arranged ahead of time.

Here is a link to Living History Farms Photography day they hold every September. Workshops and lots of things. They have it every year in September. Not expensive.

Barn quilts would be better in the late summer or fall to get the fields at their best. Some of the barns are near the houses and some are in the fields.

There are a lot of photo ops in the Kalona area as many of the Amish still use horse and buggy transportation. Not uncommon to see them tied to a hitching rail outside local businesses however I would caution that some do not like having their pictures taken.

I do not take pictures of the Amish. Never, ever. They would never go out of their way to stop you if you are caught trying, from far enough away. But if someone does not want their picture taken, then I don't. They are patients of mine in two different communities and I respect their wishes.

I didn't know that. I don't take pictures of people anyway, I was thinking of the buildings and gardens at the Amana Colonies. But if that is the way it is, I would not even want to take a camera near there. Sounds uncomfortable to me.

I didn't mean to come on so strong. Typing verses face to face. The buildings in Amana Colonies are very interesting but I would try to find more in the area. If we went there in the summer when they are doing activities outside in traditional dress and using traditional old culture methods that would keep us in the area longer. Otherwise, I tend to think after a couple of pictures of the homes they all look alike. It is a great place to shop, especially at Christmas!

Well, it is good to know what to expect. But I think overall I have lower expectations and I'm still in the learning stages. Have you caught up with the discussion regarding the UHH meeting in the Badlands area in May.

No, that would be incredible. Wonderful place for scenic shots! Are you thinking of joining?

I'm not but if you search for Badlands I would imagine you can find out all about it. Someone that lives in the area started the idea. People have already made reservations nearby. I saw the initial conversation and it was open to anyone interested.

I've got a big trip already planned for this year to the Everglades and then New Zealand next year. That is all I can handle. But I do love the Badlands.

I'm really interested in getting some winter shots so I may go up to Palisades in the next couple of weekends and walk around. If anyone has cabin fever let me know. Looks like the weather will be decent on Sunday. So I'm going to probably think about going up Sunday afternoon. Let me know if you are nearby and interested.

I have looked at a lot of great pictures of Jester and Ledges and I'm excited about going there this year.

Last summer I pedaled through some of the villages of Van Buren County and look forward to getting back to that countryside too. Its worth a Google "Villages of Van Buren County." Some real interesting little river towns in that countryside.
