This sounds like a shutter failure. This happens all the time to literally all DSLR's.
Hi. My name is Rick. Im the owner and lead technician at Discount Camera Repair and a member in good standing here at the UHH. Ive been doing repairs for other members here at greatly discounted rates and would be glad to help.

Thanks for the offer Rick, but given the distance and border crossing involved I think I'll try to find a solution locally.

Please let us know, thanks.
Thanks for the interest. Unfortunately, no, a freshly charged battery did nothing to help, so I'll be off to the repair shop on Monday.
It's a Hybrid right. Kinda like the Prius of cameras.

Today I was out shooting some birds, but when I checked the results I saw that after a certain point all of the shots were blank: pure black. I checked the exposure details for them, and nothing had changed: RAW, ISO 250, aperture priority, f7.1 and shutter speed in the area of 1/500th. I tried shooting with a different lens, and with a different memory card: same result. The camera has stopped producing an image. Plus when I turned on liveview that was blank too. There is the sound of a shutter activation, but nothing on the screen.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Hi Straight Shooter,
I read this on another site with the shooter having the same problem and the response from someone else was this:
"No idea yet for the blank shots.
But for the Rebel: The little badge at lower right says "Exp. SIM", indicating that the Exposure Simulation feature has been enabled, approximating the brightness of the final image on the rear panel LCD screen.
and I found: Exposure Simulation will attempt to continue even with depth of field preview active, though this may raise the live view noise levels even further. If you pass outside the range where the live view feed can simulate your exposure, the "Exp. Sim" icon near the bottom right of the LCD will blink, as a warning."
I also know that if you do give Canon a call they will walk you thru checking
g the camera out and helping you set it properly. GOOD LUCk Oh yeah, page 154 in owners manual tells about "Exposure Simulation"
Thanks Sportyman! I'll explore that before taking the camera into the shop.
with that many clicks its just like a car with with high miles.
Probably just out of digital film.

Oh defiantly do talk to Canon before taking it to the shop unless you have a reputable sop that you really trust, we do not have one here in my area except in Atlanta an hour away which that really is a shame. because the local shop only wants to make a buck instead of helping for the bigger picture later on.
Good luck S S with your 60d I have had one for about 3 years and love it.
Last week I got a Refurbished one from Adorama for $539.00 us dollars. Just thinking that maybe the cheaps way to go if you want another one.
Good luck
Russ

More likely it'll be the MSD v.2015....
We just switched to Office 365 and purchased 82 licenses. Get well, Mr. Gates.... Hope you get out of the poor house....

That seems low to me. Aren't most Canons tested to 150K?

Put the camera in the manual mode and "bulb" setting. With the lens off press and hold the shutter release. When the mirror rises you should see the sensor. If you're seeing the shutter blades you likely have a failed shutter. The opening curtain has hung up. If you see the sensor got to a slow manual speed such as around 1/15 and see if you get any image. (lens back on of course) Actually you could leave the lens off. You're trying to determine if the shutter is opening. Shutters will sometimes have a problem at the highest speeds but may open at a slow speed. If that's the case it's probably time to say bye-bye to that shutter. It would probably be worth while to check with Rick at Discount Camera even with the shipping involved. Good luck.

Have you tried a different lens? Your lens could be stuck at a very small aperture if a cable comes off or breaks inside of the lens. Also, the contacts may be dirty. Try a different lens, and try to R&R the lens a few times to make sure it's making good contact. Then call Canon.

Funny coincidence. I had the same problem last night with my 60D. Turned out that the mirror lockup mysteriously got enabled. Disable it at custom function III, item 5.
Hope this helps.
