I've done the Ledges a couple of times (Summer and Fall) awesome. Jester is nice also, unless the buffalo and elk are laying down in the high grass in a low spot. During the winter the eagles along the river just south of the capital can be awesome to watch.

I'd love to find some old buildings especially barns.

Someone posted a shot of a nice old barn in the Nevada area, on the old highway but I haven't had time to find it yet. I too, like this subject and need to get out and roam the roads looking for some and then note their location so I can find my way back to them!!

As you can see both forums have been moved by Admin. to General Chit-Chat. Hopefully no one lost us.

We've got time to look around and find a good place and then all decide where to start. Spring is drab until things start coming up and then it is small stuff we usually shoot. That is why I was thinking barns and streams.

Not if you can travel to Iowa at the time the meets get set up!
And feel free to do a User List search for "Iowa" or "IA" to contact people at ANY time you plan to travel through for either suggestions or meet-up possibilities.

A couple of places, especially for grassland enthusiasts
Loess Hill. Great landscapes, and in the right places native prairie
Cayler Prairie State Preserve: native prairie
Neal Smith NWR: landscapes, restored prairie, buffalo, elk
Kent Park: restored prairie
Ciha Fen: interesting landscape, sand prairie

Trying to get some Iowa photographers together for a meet, greet, shoot weekend.

We need subjects, locations, ideas for dates. Join in!

I'm a scenery and bird person myself and live in the Iowa City area. Right now there are eagles nearby, round barns, and old barns.

That is always a great idea and a lot of fun. i run the outings for a camera club in Northern Illinois. If you want some tips on organizing your outing just PM me and I can give you ideas and how we do it.

We've got quite a list going. Now we need to decide on a time and then we can decide what area has the most to offer at that time.

I'm up for anything relative to the weather. But I think most people feel waiting till after snow and ice danger, and bitter cold is a better option.

So does March sound okay?

The Quad-Cities is good for Bald Eagles, especially L&D 14 in LeClaire. Maybe tk would set up a mailing list. I'll send my email address as a private message.

I up for about anything as long as I have some advance notice.

Why not consider winter for Landscapes/Snowscapes? Check out the work of David Plowden http://www.davidplowden.com/. He spend most of his life photographing the flat lands of the Prairie States.

We can always try and if the weather doesn't cooperate for all or some we can cancel or postpone.

Got a place in mind?
