my favorite digital camera is (and how you know why i use only film!) is the 6 megapixel Contax N Digital - just can't find one for under $2,000.00!

It is just one persons offensive opinion.
For what it is worth - in a recent post a similar Nikon owner said similar about Canon and even stated that only amateurs used them - insulting all the professionals here who use Canon no doubt.

Chinaman, you sound like a wise sage, an oracle to whom we can bring you trials and tribulations of our ordinaty lives and seek invaluable redress. Should you use either the D700 or your venerable XT to start a camera stud farm, It would be the honor of this unworthy serveant to send you your first mate for your camera and let you work your magic, as likened to the touch of Midas unto the pair, expecting nothing in return but the return of my original contribution and, in the course of supernatural time, quite naturally the pick of the resultant litter. Submitted with the deepest respect, your humble serveant, Mogul.

Hi Mogul
I'll note it down that you are first in the queue.
Some people are just mouthpieces, unable to form an opinion on their own, they repeat what they hear and it supports their own uninformed choice. This person clearly knew nothing about Nikon, gear in general, or photography, and your reaction to his "view" should be commensurate.
You are not wrong. You say that you have a D700, which is a full frame professional camera. Another responder referred to the D7000 which is a crop sensor semi-professional camera. I have shot for extended periods with both Canon and Nikon and they are great cameras. The person who made that comment is rude and misinformed as you can make great images with all levels of cameras. Keep shooting!!!

And if I recall it didn't generate a 13 page thread. All this because somebody insulted a 5 year old Nikon. Talk about brand loyalty. I hope somebody reported this to the local Global TV station in Edmonton and they can start up a hurt feeling fund.
Reminds me of the Mustang vs Camero rumblings of the late 60's, usually argued with lots of beer.

So silly as to be a waste of time and effort as a topic for discussion .

The problem with AH`s is that they also vote !
Don't forget that they also breed. Usually with another AH. So the offspring get a double dose of AH genes and a double dose of AH "nurture".
Well, I've never met a camera that I didn't like. Canon, Leica, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, yada yada all make wonderful cameras that make beautiful pictures if you know how to use them properly. I have used/owned most all of them at one time or another. I have a D700, and it is a wonderful camera. I just moved to a D610 and, although I haven't had time to use it much, it seems to be all that I was looking for. The D700, in my humble opinion, seems to be a little better made than the 610, but the 610 has the bigger/better sensor. Ignore people who indulge in negative comments. They, for the most part, don't know what they are talking about. "Contempt prior to investigation" is, unfortunately, not a unique character defect. Enjoy your D700. It will serve you very well. :-)
My modus operandi is "Let the pictures speak" - it's the one behind the camera not the equipment

But notice that there hasn't been any shortage of Canon users sticking up for the OP, myself included. (I didn't see the other thread, and can't be bothered to go hunting for it, so I won't comment on it.)

Mustang vs. Camaro.
Canon. vs. Nikon.
AstroPhysics, vs. Takahashi. vs. Tele Vue vs... (telescopes)
In each of these cases, you have gear of similar quality, but all but the best-heeled are going to be constrained to choose just one. (And in the case of the cameras, that will probably lock them into a brand unless they want to "chuck" a set of lenses, etc., as well.) So a lot of mentation and emotion goes into the choice. Once one has chosen, one wants to think that one has made the best choice. To an inferior mind, this equates to thinking that the other choices are
generally inferior, instead of just not quite as good by one's own criteria-- and completely ignoring the fact that other people chose by different sets of criteria or if they did choose by the same set, they weighted them differently.
And so, seeing other people making other choices, and being AHs, they get insulting, mainly to bolster their uncertainty.

And since you've obviously read through this thread you must have noticed they didn't knock the Nikon brand. Check out some of the comments about Canon (the ones that aren't in jest). Standard stuff in this forum.
