No this was an individual that just received a brand new top of the line Canon through his insurance company. I just thought he was rather rude considering his last two cameras were gifts of the insurance company and I saved long and hard for mine:-)

You have your best answer in your own words:

"I have always believed it is the photographer not the camera that makes the picture."

Happy New Year!

I was recently told by a Canon user that my camera (nikon D700 was crap and that Nikon was going down the toilet. No doubt my feelings were hurt considering I have top notch equipmentI was upset because I would never say that about any camera, even and old box camera because I have always believed it is the photographer not the camera that makes the picture. Tell me I am wrong

He was partially wrong. Your D700 is anything but crap, but for a different reason, I think Nikon is going down the toilet. They are starting to put software in some of their DSLR bodies preventing the use of 3rd party lenses and batteries

Another "Big Ego" that thinks his way is the ONLY way!!
Each camera brand has their fanatics that will say the same thing about any other brand!!
In the end it is the results that count!! And more than likely with that kind of ego, his shots more than likely can't measure up to yours!!

ALL brands have good equipment (with the normal "lemons") so just be concerned with what YOU like and with a dSLR concentrate more on the lenses available for YOUR brand!!

Personally I shoot with Canon but will not shoot down any other brand, but will make note of where I think my choice is better FOR ME!!

I once saw some very good images done with a shoe box with a pin hole on one end, film in the middle. I honestly do not recall if if it was Florsheim shoe box, or Murphy-Johnston, or some Italian shoe box, however, good images.

I also shoot a D700. Did you know that the D700 is virtually the same as a D3. Some would say it has a few more features that owners of the D3 wish they had. I just got done with a wrestling shot and blew one of the shots up to a 2ft x 3ft poster. When people were here for Christmas, they couldn't believe it was a shot I could do with a 12 mp camera. Great color and I shot as fast as I feel comfortable doing. Have confidence in your choice of camera. There will always be some other new and improved gismo marketing people will try to convince you into buying. I have seen a picture done by a 12 year old kid using a D40 I felt was better than mine. If you want to spend money, spend it on a quality lens.

If someone told me my equipment was crap (I now shoot Canon) I would tell them it made me a better photographer.
I have and sometimes still shoot Nikon, Pentax, Konica.

You've got a far better camera than I do, which is a D5200 and as far as I can tell, it's not crap. I love some of the photo contests where pros go out and get incredible pictures with the cheapest equipment possible and do great. It's the equivalent of landing a 10LB bass with a Snoopy rod and reel. Good equipment with more features has helped my photography a lot, but I think there's still a lot to be said for having an eye for what you're doing and being in the right places at the right times.

Their comment has no value for them or you, I call that stupid.
You can't fix stupid. One used to be able to but now you would be put in jail.

Try not to let his remarks bother you. It is the person behind the camera. Happy Shooting.

There are always people who try to make themselves bigger by bringing others down but they really just prove what fools they are. It doesn't do much good to point it out to them as they are usually too stupid to get it. I shoot Canon but I have nothing but respect for Nikon equipment and shooters. It's still the shooter as you said.

The D700 may be a bit long in the tooth being over 5 years old, but to imply its crap was not only mean spirited but it was absurd. The person who told you that was obviously a clueless and ignorant fanboy.

I think the best solution is to simply walk away from this individual, you just don't need that sort of attitude in our lives.

It aint the camera, it's the shooter,
Sometimes it's better to be thought a total fool, than to open ya mouth and remove all doubt, of course, typing or taking a pen in hand qualifies also
