To HECK with all those editing programs... Mark your pictures with a simple FAST tool (both in terms of loading and using) already built into Windows......(Get That.. the tool I use is an accessory ALREADY on your computer... not some far flung other program!!!)
For something as simple as you describe, I use the Windows Snipping tool. It's on my task bar as I use it so much. To find it go to:
Windows Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool.
If you want to put it on your task bar or in your start menu, right click on the command and left click "pin to taskbar" or "pin to startmenu". It will be there for future use.
If you just want to start it, left click (instead of right click) on the command to open the Snipping Tool.
Do this after you have opened your image on the screen (not in your editor, but just with Windows Picture Viewer, or anything that displays the image on the screen. Snipping Tool is a "screen capture" program with it's own tools for creating highlights and lines or circles.
Open the image on the screen. Now open Snipping Tool. Now using your cursor enclose the area you want by clicking and dragging the cursor around the area you want to capture, then press enter, or let go of the mouse button.
A dialogue box to save the capture will come up (note: you need to give the capture a name other than capture). The capture will be saved in My Pictures. Before saving note the simple highlight and draw tools in the dialogue box.
Use those tools as you like and complete the save. This gives you a copy of your image with your markings on it.
I use this tool very often for handouts with sample dialogue boxes in my classes.
Simple and fast... don't need to open your editing program and HUNT for tools. It is standalone.
I am far to lazy and impatient to wait for ANY image editing program to open, so I am very good at finding simple, fast tools.
I do the same thing with resizing pics for email, using a free download called Image Resizer for windows, that shows up in the menu "resize images" when you right click on an image file or files in your folder. BE SURE TO UNCHECK- REPLACE ORIGINAL in this menu. You have 3 size options plus custom for this resize tool.
