Sometimes that's how you have to do it. It's not an inexpensive lens, but you'll find it worthwhile for a long time.

B&H has a "bill me later" feature. No interest if paid off in 6 months.

(: sounds like the canon is the winner no responses about the sigma 150 500. I am going with the canon.
I have the Sigma 150-500 and have found it to be sharp. Have shot Osprey with it during the summer mornings, including the young (a few weeks old) in their nests and they are tack sharp. Got some of the parents coming in for a landing with a fish in their talons then feeding their young.

Can we see the osprey photos...and any shot details?
I ran the canon 100-400L through ebay & found none used for sale. That tells me something but then I ran Sigma as well & only found 50-200 with 2X doubler. I did find some used Tamron 200 mm - 400 mm F/5.6 etc. for sale and for bid but daddy use to say you get what you pay for & even though I'm a real tight wad I think I would go with the Canon. I have no experence with Tamron & perhaps someone here could give you advise on new Tamron lens. Rollo62 I did find a " NEW TAMRON SP 200-500mm F5-6.3 F/5-6.3 Di LD IF A08 LENS FOR CANON EF" on ebay for $1,049.00 with
$89.00 - Expedited Shipping from outside US
Item location: TAIPEI, Taiwan
What is it (subjects) that you like to shoot ?? How far from them will you be ??
Do you really need the 500mm ??
Do you have the 100mm to 150mm range covered with another lens or will you be leaving a gap ??
The 70-300 will be good for most of your picture taking
Save the money for more inportant things like buying food clothes etc
Thanks for the review this has helped
