Both David Busch's Nikon D7000 book and his Compact Field Guide have recommendations for a Custom Settings Menu. PP 275-318 in the book and Ch 7 in the Field Guide. Please share the pdf link when you can.

I purchased both of these a couple months ago after reading many reviews on different books. Busch did a great job and I've yet to want something I can't reference in his book. I need a "Dummy" book and this one was rated as better and I'm very pleased with it.
Your camera has an internal battery. To restore all settings you must remove the main battery and let the internal battery run down. Might take several weeks. It's called a cold reset. All from page 42 in the only book for the D7 by David Busch.
I don't think so. Losing the internal battery you only lose the time and date not any of the settings. Test it out. The setting are stored in flash memory and it stays the same without any power. Only the clock memory needs to be updated when the camera is off because time goes on.
