Other than sending the body to Nikon, is it possible to completely reset back to factory defaults, like right out of the box?

Thanks
Gary

Its on page 151 of the manual, hold down the two buttons with the green dots on.

Spaaarky, that process comes close, but does not completely reset the entire camera. Perhaps it is not possible to this...

Thanks

Hello Gary, all it does in reality is to restore it to the Nikon default settings.
In answer to your other post the U1 and U2 settings come set as a default, sounds like Mr Rockwell is using Nikons default settings, take what he says with a pinch of salt. ;)

Yes that is what I am seeing. I just thought I would inquire about it...not a problem.

I figured out my other issue, I was thinking one way...while Nikon was thinking another.

I am not taking any of the presets as gospel....just interesting to compare this and that...

For some reason Nikon doesn't make it easy to do a full reset.
The two button reset only resets ten basic settings.
To reset Shooting Menu settings, go to menu>shooting menu>reset shooting menu.
To reset Custom Settings; menu>custom settings>reset custom settings.
To reset User Settings (U1 & U2); menu>Set Up menu>reset user settings.
That should get you back to the way it came out of the box.

Yes I did all that. I had an old Minotal, my first digital and you could reset it completely with the push of 3 buttons..

Thanks for the info

Your camera has an internal battery. To restore all settings
you must remove the main battery and let the internal battery run down. Might take several weeks. It's called a cold reset.
All from page 42 in the only book for the D7 by David Busch.

Was just glancing at Busch books, the D7000 is not currently available....

Would like to find it as a PDF...so much nicer...

Thanks for the tip though

I have the new David D. Busch manual for the Nikon D7000. I am anticipating the purchase of this camera. It is published in new format. The actual book is larger than other Busch manuals, and twice as thick as any that I already own. Bought it at Amazon.com
I include a link:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=david+d+busch+nikon+d7000&rh=n%3A283155%2Ck%3Adavid+d+busch+nikon+d7000
Looks like you'll have to cut and paste this address.

Would the back up battery run down that fast. Doesn't seem like much a a back up for the camera settings. Leaving a camera w/o the main battery charged or in the camera wouldn't seem that unusual.
