I was in the 511 MP Squadron in Germany, '59 to '62. We escorted classified missile parts all over Europe. MY nephew is currently in the Air Force stationed in Afghanistan, going on twelve years.

Overly Hackled. Not sure if I'm on point BUT, my uncle's brother died in Japan; my uncle was in the trenches of Korea; my dad was in the Navy and the Air Force; my first husband was in the Air Force; my current husband was in the Air Force (Guam); my nephew is in Jordan (been to Bosnia, Afghanistan, and points unknown); another nephew is in Afghanistan; my younger son is in the Army National Guard (been to Louisiana-hurricane relief, GITMO, Iraq). I feel like I've served because of the dedication to God and country that my family has shown so proudly. Just wanted you to know.

From a grateful American, let me just say, I have read through these posts with tears in my eyes. I'm so proud to live in this country and so grateful for all you have done to make it the country it is. My dad served in the Marines (he says once a Marine, always a Marine), My Grandpa was Army and I had two uncles serve, one in the army one in the air force and my father-in-law was in the Navy. I have nothing but deep love and respect for all of you and just wanted to take a second to tell you thank you. Some of us out here really do appreciate our freedoms. :)

Thanks again.

I feel somewhat of an intruder here so let me apologize now. I clicked on this site out of curiosity and found myself going thru the posts. I have no illustrious family background in any branch of the service. My Dad was in the Air Force, Warner Robbins in the '50s but got out at the end of his time, and Uncle that retired military and think he saw action with Korea and VN. Have a cousin who was in the Navy when the Gulf War started and have a bro-in-law that was d/c'd due to medical reasons who saw active duty during Suddam Husians time. I never really paid attention during school about the wars our great nation has been in. But since I've gotten older have found myself deeply humbled with this history and those who helped make it. My husband and I went to DC this past July for our anniv. and there were certain places I wanted to make sure and visit. I can only say it humbled me more. Reading these posts now well..... I really can't express how I feel, no words come to me. Just saying 'thank you' doesn't really seem adequate to me. I have a daughter that was going to sign up for the Coast Guard but didn't. That is about the closest I've come to close family joining. I put up a photo earlier this wk of my grandson in Navy uniform on the USS Alabama where I took he and his sister. Some of you Navy hands may have commented. I know this is not the right place but I have a few photos I would like to share. The folder on my computer is labeled 'My Red, White, and Blue.

Well seems you got out I went in, enlisted May 1972 and did basic in Great Lakes. I joined the crew of the USS Fulton (AS11) a submarine 'tender' who's home port was State Pier in New London. CT?
I met up with her in Sardinia, Italy but the ship was docked near La Madalena a beautiful little town.
My MOS was weapons specialist with designation W4, or weapons division four. It was the ships own specialy trained security force whos job was to keep all those missles and torpedos safe from all enemies foriegn and domestic. Funny....i could never seem to find my way pass E3 either.....my mouth kept getting in the way.
The Med Cruise was the only cruise i got, but im not complaining, the Med was great, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and i got to sail thru the Straits of Gibralter. Anyway, better stop here, or ill go on for days.

Air Force here, 20 years. Served as an inflight refueling specialist (Boom Operator), over 100 combat missions South East Asia and many missions to Europe and other interesting places. Perhaps the most memorable was our trip to Thule Greenland. Some of the things I still don't remember (brain ain't thawed out yet)

For those New to the site who are Veterans<............

I thought it would be of interest to the Veterans who are members of UHH to have a place to post what Service they were in , what there MOS (Mode Of Service) was ,and when and where they served. My guess is there are quite a few Veterans both young and "seasoned" that use the site.
Suggest we try to keep politics out of the thread. We all served our Nation and that is our common bond.

All Veterans of all Eras both men and women tell us who you were with and where you served.

I served in the US Navy 1969-1972 as a Gunners Mate. Did a tour in Nam as a twin .50 cal bow gunner on PBR's (Patrol Boats, River) '69-'70. My Unit was River Division 594, part of Task Force 116. Most of our ops were up along the Cambodian boarder. Finished up doing sea duty on The USS Ticonderoga, an old WWII vintage flat top. I made E-3 twice. Adherence to Military Discipline was not my strong points.

God Bless America and those who defend Her ,Past, Present and Future.

OK who's next

I enlisted in the Navy Reserve in 1968 to avoid the draft. I did two tours in Vietnam (69-70/70-71) on the aircraft carrier, USS Ranger. I came in as a Fireman and became an Interior Communications Electrician. After Nam I stayed in 'cus we were a broke student family and needed the money. I cross rated to Journalist since I was getting my degree in Broadcasting.

After nine years in the enlisted reserves I got my commission as a Navy Reserve Public Affairs Officer. I was a pretty traditional weekend warrior until the mid-1980s. Then I started taking on extra assignments. I got to travel all over the world shooting video and taking stills. I was one of the very few Naval Officers to work in Special Operations as a Psychological Operations Officer.

In 1994 I went back on active duty as a public affairs officer working in the Pentagon. I spent most of my time with the Surface Navy and then with the Navy’s Theater Ballistic Missile Defense program. Again, more fun travel.

I retired on my 60th birthday in 2004 after 36 years of service. Remember I joined just to avoid the draft! Now my wife and I volunteer with the USMC Officer Candidate School assisting the Chaplain with the Latter-day Saint (Mormon) services. It was and is an honor to be of service to my country.

BTW to you (Overly Hacked) and anyone else who served in country or in the brown water Navy, I have nothing but the greatest admiration for y'all!! I only hope our fast movers provided some protection and made your life a little better.

I came within a gnats eyelash of getting assigned as a Snipe on PBRs.

BTW don't let my "captken" handle scare you off. I just didn't get caught!

USAF 1970 - 74 After Basic I went to an 305x4C Computer Maintenance for 11 months at Keesler AFB Mississippi then spent the remainder of my time at the 665th Calumet Air Force Station MI. Worked on the BUIC Computer System I didn't realize how good of an assignment it was until I was older.

I enlisted on May 27, 1968, did basic at Ft Dix, and then photography school at the USArmy Signal Center and School at Ft Monmouth, NJ. After that, ARADMAC on the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi. Then The USNS Corpus Christi Bay (yes, in the Army, on a ship) anchored in Vung Tau, Viet Nam. I was a "Crash Damage Analysis Photographer" but did all sorts of work with my unit. I was discharged on April 13, 1971. (It was my mom's birthday)

BobMielke, you didn't need to tell me you hate what we did. Many people did that when I came home. I was just serving the country that I love.
