I waited for close to an hour in a certain choice strategic place standing up in hoards of people to get these photos. I hate crowds so this was a real sacrifice for me to get these photos. This was once in a lifetime photo session for me.

Time well spent Brent, a beautiful series. Thanks for sharing.

of course not crowds it's the only time I ever had a anxiety attack or whatever it was on main street disneyland!! But would love to take some night shots there!

So Georgiann, would you haul around a tripod in the park to get the really good photos with a time exposure? How extreme would you go to get some good photos?

Absolutely fantastic photos!! Love them all but 3 is my favorite. The smoke really enhances the castle!!

Thanks luvmypets for your input. I agree on #3 being really cool. THe smoke from the fireworks really gave the image some character and interest......something that I did not anticipate, but was ready for the shot. I really didn't see much of the fireworks because I was mainly focusing on taking photos. My enjoyment was after when I got home and started looking at the photos and then all the nice comments from you UHH members and the way you accept the photos.

Brent,

Looks like you had fun with the fireworks. Like you, I hate the crowds, so I avoid the fireworks. There are a couple of rooftops where one can get a good view of the castle and the fireworks, without the crowds and allowing for the use of a tripod and remote trigger.

I too have a copy of the castle construction; however, I modified mine a bit. I figure this old photo to have been taken in 1953 or 1954. I was at Disneyland on their opening day in July of 1955. Met Walt and his wife.

Brent, br br Looks like you had fun with the fire... (show quote)

Wow Ken....you met Walt and his wife on opening day? That is something that very few people can claim........what an awesome memory.
Why did you take out the figure in the photo?
Where are the rooftops that you can have access to to photograph?

I know what you mean about the crowds. There's a lot of jockeying for position at the best viewing spots, both there and at Disney World in Florida. I haven't been to either since I got a decent camera, but if I ever go again, my camera and tripod will be hauled around all day. My wife promised our 10 year old twin granddaughters that we'd take them back to Disney World when they turn 16, so probably in 6 years, but you never know how 16 year olds will feel about doing things with grandparents.

Brent,

I am going to Disneyland tomorrow for 2 days. Can you give me information about lenses you found useful. Presently I am thinking of taking my 16-85 and 12-24 for my Nikon D7000.

Great pictures by the way. I really enjoyed seeing them.

Hi Dennis........you asked about lenses to use in Disneyland.
I have what I consider the perfect lens for Disneyland. I can get whatever I want in almost any situation with this one lens. It's a 18-200mm lens that works great in close with the 18 wide angle or to Zoom in for the far away shots. I have found that I really don't need any more or less than that one lens. Personally, I don't think you will need your 12-24 lens. Your 16-85 should work fine. If those are your only 2 lenses to choose from, I would take the 16-85. If you have one that has a little more range you might want to take it, but your 85 should be able to handle most anything for distance.

Since I have a season pass and live about 1/2 hour away I go often. I'm always looking for new and unique angles and subjects there. I HATE snapshots! lol

Hi Brent it is not that I do not like filters I use them myself. Having seen both pictures I just think the filter takes something from it, may be if it was a bit less on the filter, not sure. On saying that you have done plenty of pictures with filters on and they are great. :D :D

Thanks Val, I appreciate that. I can also see your point about not having the filter on that image. I was thinking more or less of Van Gogh's "Starry night" painting and wondered how it would look like that.
