I recently was able to pick up an absolutely beautiful Canon 5Dc and due to limited funds was hoping anyone with experience in FF could suggest some inexpensive alternatives to the usual "L" glass. I DO have a 28-135mm IS Canon that is on its way but can anyone suggest something else? Thanks!!!

I haven't tried the Tamron lens recommended by Imagemeister and I do respect his advice however, in this instance just let me say that the 28-135 you have coming is going to serve you well. I got one as a kit lens on a film camera and it does a very good job and although not quite as good as one of Canon's best, the 24-105, it compares very favorably as is shown in this head to head comparison at the following url which is the 5th most visited photography site on the 'net: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/lenses/24vs28.shtml

With the Image Stabilization, you will be able to handhold this lens at a couple of stops below the minimum aperture which gives you pretty good low light capability and in most cases will cover the 50mm f/1.8 recommendation fairly well but it sure wouldn't hurt to have a 50mm in your bag - it's a good lens to have. As a "have to" situation you will most likely only need something longer if you want to shoot wildlife or whatever at a distance and there probably isn't a real good inexpensive answer to that question. I might suggest a manual focus 500mm mirror lens from ebay, Bower, Vivitar, Rokinon, something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rokinon-500mm-1000mm-Mirror-Lens-for-Canon-60D-50D-7D-5D-40D-30D-20D-T3i-T3-/290722915323?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item43b06fa3fb

You might check out an old, but still classic 50mm f/1.4 Mark I ( with the metal mount. Mine works great w/ my 1D Mark III.

When I was using a Canon 5Dc, my favorite lens was a Sigma 24-70 F2.8 (non OS). Later I picked up my only "L" lens, 70-200. Good glass is important with this camera. I had a few other lens, but these were the two I used the most. Purchased the Sigma new, the 70-200 used from Craig's list.
A good place to look for used lens is Keh's

They have a good warranty & exchange program.

SteveG,
The old saying "You get what you pay for". Canon "L" lenses are great. Tameron & Sigma lenses are much much less and good quality. It's like saying I want a Caddy but can only pay the price for a ford. Find a good used Caddy,

I think the prevalent thinking is that if you can afford a FF Canon body, then you can afford 'L' glass. There are other alternatives, but if you want to get the BEST from your camera, then Canon 'L' glass is your best alternative. DON'T forget craigslist. It can provide GREAT opportunities for exceptional used lenses.

What is your budget? And for how many lenses of that budget are you looking for?
