I recently was able to pick up an absolutely beautiful Canon 5Dc and due to limited funds was hoping anyone with experience in FF could suggest some inexpensive alternatives to the usual "L" glass. I DO have a 28-135mm IS Canon that is on its way but can anyone suggest something else? Thanks!!!

The two that I use are the TamronSP 28-105 F2.8 all the way, and the Tamron SP 20-40 F2.7-3.5 ......

I have 5D MK2, and have several sigma lenses. Great lenses at a good price.

Quality FF glass does not come any cheaper than these ( especially in zooms)

yeah, I assumed that but hey, you never know if someone has an old film era type or the like that might be a good one.

A 50mm 1.8 lens is a good addition at a reasonable price. I have a Nikon FF and use my 50mm more than any other lens.

Yes, there are a very few primes that were good... but most will not fit/work well with the Canon AF mount.

The 28-135mm IS will serve you well. I just got a used copy of the EF 50mm f1.8 (mark I). The optics are the same as the current II version. However, this older version has a metal mount. Pictures so far are remarkable. It was released in 1987. Mine came from KEH.

Questions for the Tamron guy. How do those compare to the Canon 28-135mm IS? Have you had a chance to compare?

Never had one - but from what I can see and read, it is one of the better large ratio zooms out there - though a bit slow in f-stops.

SteveG, if you are on a budged, find yourself a used canon EF35-80. That lens is really old, and has a horrible reputation(by those that have never used it), but optically it's actually very good. You'll find then for around $75. Also as you know the 50 1.8 is great for low light.
Good luck

I have to agree with SS here. a 50 1.8 is great for low light and very sharp after 2.8. I realize you're looking for cheap alternatives but even with the 5DC being aged you wouldn't want to put truck tires on a sports car would you :)
