Mike....it's murder. We have the rule of law in this country, and it doesn't include taking the law into your own hands, and if you'll recall, one of the Commandments is, Thou Shalt Not Kill.

Granted Steve... BUT this is fantasy and we can think what we want, because when Jane got his breath back, he and Red John got up, went for a beer and congratulated each other on messing up our minds for so many episodes...

You all seem to be certain the man Jane killed was Red John. It could turn out that it wasn't Red John after all. I have a feeling they're never going to let the Red John character go.

What do you think about the end of Mentalist last night? Does it bother you that Jane actually murdered Red John? Yes, he got his revenge....but is that the character that we wanted for Jane, or did we want Red John to die in a shoot out, or for Jane to realize he wouldn't become like Red John and take him in for prosecution and to find out the members of his secret society?

Steve, I, being televisionally challenged, have no clue about the subject of your post. Perhaps, I'm a happier person for it.

Perhaps Patrick Jane is Red John. An alter ego?

I think it was Red John and that the body never will be found. Yes, Patrick choked him, but he wasn't quite dead.

I also agree with those who say the show would be better without the Red John character - and Holmes would have been better without Moriarity.

"Doesn't bother me. Just glad they finally got rid of the Red John character"
We just discovered White Collar and watched it on Blu-Ray. It is a clear knock off from Catch me If You Can but we love it. They have continuing personal lines similar to Red John but they resolve them from time to time and move on to another so you don't get Red John burn out.

I found Red John to be a turnoff. Before he came up I rather enjoyed 'The Mentalist'. Wonder why lighter entertainment features need to segue to the pretentious and the somber Thought Spiderman was an interesting comic strip, but didn't care for the movie's preoccupation with the dark side... As to the Mentalist's last episode, I didn't watch.

He murdered him once before, remember? Of course that wasn't really Red John. I wish they hadn't made such a big deal of that whole Red John thing. I was satisfied with the regular crime-solving each week. Just like the on again/off again romance with those other two. Did you realize that she was pregnant in real life? That's why she was always at her desk.

There's a reason I never watched soap operas. I like Cho, although they seem to be making him loosen up. I saw him smile recently. They'd better watch that or they'll lose their audience. :D

If you "never watched soap operas", How do you know so much about Mentalist?
Personally, I thought the Red John thing was getting pretty old, and I'm glad to see its exit from the show. Still, I'd rather watch a good football game, which causes some friction with my wife. Last night's game did not qualify as a good game - Washington might have trouble with a good high school team.

And how about the reaction when The Lone Ranger told Tonto the meaning of the name he has been calling his for so many years.

"Thou shalt not kill" is in the Bible? That didn't stop the Inquisition, the Crusades or the Haulocaust now did it?

I think you may be applying the Christian standards to the wrong television show. The main character has been bent on revenge from the inception of the show. He stated his intentions clearly numerous times as well. The character is clearly based on a Satanistic personna.

I think that his choice to strangle Red John foreshadows the resurgence of the character; either through survival of the character or by deception on his part. Either way, I wish the Red John character would go away. The series could morph into something better without a mysterious antagonist.

Thanks for that, now I don't have to watch it anymore. Don't know how far behind US we are but thanks for telling me the ending. Any other movies/series you want to tell me the ending? lol

I think the show may take a strange twist. No way Jane can be the innocent person he has been in the past.

That would be terrible, though, wouldn't it??? Just about anybody on the team would be. Even Cho!!
I've been thinking of this all day and can't believe that I've found a discussion about one of my favorite tv shows on a photography site! Anyway another possible leak, the former boss, African American lady who appeared recently. Jane told her about the list and remember the heavy set guy that Jane paid someone to break into his house?

If that charecter really is the one who killed Janes wife, and child, then I wouldn't call it murder, I'd call it Justice. Getting sent to prison for a few years, isn't how I'd define 'Justice', for such an act.

I agree, he didn't hold the death grip long enough. But, he was pretty well done anyways.

My 2 cents. Red John has become the one armed man of the fugitive. The Mentalist series started out decently but after they (the writers) decided that Red John would be Jane's obsession, the show took a permanent turn and I became less interested.

Besides we have choices. It's the same formula as Castle and Elementary. just a different male/female team.

Now if we want to discuss untimely deaths, there appears to be an intense viewer backlash at the killing of Brian on family guy.
