Nostalgia aside (and I started in film and owned a Nikon F myself), I can't believe it will handle as well as a more modern design.
On a D300 or D7000, I can change exposure compensation without moving my hands. On the Df, exposure comp is on the top left, where my left hand isn't. To see what the camera settings are on my cameras, I check the top LCD panel; on a Df you have to see what each of the dials is set to. And those dials can't light up in the dark.
On older cameras, control type and placement was largely dictated by the mechanics of the camera. You had to have a separate dial for shutter speed, ISO, exposure comp, etc. and they had to be placed where the mechanical linkages would work. We learned to manage those things, but the modern electronic designs are much more efficient.
If you're not doing the kind of work that requires speed, I'm sure it will do fine. But I'm not trading in a modern design for a slower one.
Not to criticize the tastes of others, but this seems kinda' silly to me, particularly considering the price. If I wanted a retro camera, I would pay a few bucks for one and enjoy re-experiencing the film technology I loved, where all my memories are:-D
Love the design but $2800 for a D610 in a retro body hmm.

It quickens the pulse and excites the passions. I would pre-order it today, but considering that it is a 16 MP camera and that I could get a D800 for about the same money, I know I will never buy this. Not until they put in a better sensor.
Why are you judging it by the 16Mp sensor? If it's good enough for the D4 it is definately good enough!

Love it! But at age 82 it's come too late for me. Some years ago Nikon sent me a survey asking my opinion of the then new D90. I suggested at the time that they ought to make a camera with a digital back that would use existing nonAi lenses for the F models. Looks like they have taken my comments on board.
Meanwhile I'll stick with my Nikon F, Nikkormat EL and D90.
My first DSLR was the Nikon D70. I think the D70 was the first decent Nikon DSLR at a reasonable price (just my opinion).
I also have a chrome F, a black body motor driven F, and a black Nikkormat FT3.
I used to think that someone should make a digital back for the F3 (I really liked using that camera), but soon after that thought I figured it would be totally impractical due to having an unused film transport and advances in metering, auto focus and so on.
I never said I wanted a Df, I just like it's nostalgic "retro" look. As a serious hobbyist it's to expensive for me also . I should imagine I will continue using my D300 and D700 for some time... Though the D7100 did tempt me for a while after it came out. :)

It's not a D610 in a retro body it's a D4 in retro body. :)
I do wonder how many they will actually sell and it the people that buy them will be truly happy with there purchase if they have been using D300 or newer Nikons for years.
I would like to see one in person though just to see how it handles.

I like it! And heres the classic body I used for over 45 years and still pop a roll into once in a while! Focal plane shutter still works fine. I have no idea how many shutter operations on the spring, but it must be at least 50000.

I agree it may be a little silly but I just like the old 35mm look... That may mean I'm getting old... :)
I also like the look of the Fujifilm X100S and the X20. They remind me of my older than me Leica, but like the Df they are also too expensive...
Just fun to look at though. :)

Nice looking body lacking brains.
Perfect combination for a one night stand, but not a long term relationship

The sensor is the only thing from the D4 the 39 point focus system and more is from the 610

Not trying to "fight about it", but the sensor and the processor from the D4 make the picture not the focus system. That's why I would consider it more D4 that D610 in output. :)
If it wasn't for the price I would me one and use it in manual mode all the time with older nikkor lenses.
Yes nice looking DSLR.
Dave.
You all look alike to me!

Looks nice and professional to me. If you want to see a really ugly body, do a search on the old Sony MAVICA camera, one of the early digital cameras in production.
