I shoot mainly high school sports and am thinking on upgrading from slow T2i. Any reccomendations without breaking the bank. I want to stick with canon as I have lenses for it. Is the 7d much of an upgrade? That is what I was looking at mainly. My son is playing college baseball and would be in Florida in March is another consideration.

The 7D is an excellent choice. It has a rapid-fire burst mode for capturing sports, accepts all EF and EF-S lens, and feels very solid in the hands. Once you handle it, you may never want to touch your T2i again.

I agree.

Well please remember we are not all from the USA.

I have no idea what the T2i is not going to google it, but I use the 60D and two D7000s and if you look at my sports stuff remember it is as much about the user not hammering off 8fps for ten minutes

Sports photographers managed well with manual film wind

I upgraded my T3i to the 70D and it was well worth the upgrade.

What do you mean by 'slow T2i'?

What are your current lens?

The 7D offers better frames per second and is built like a tank. The sensors between the T2i and and 7D are very similar. The final output will be virtually the same.

The 'rumored' 7D Mark II would be the way to go. If you want to upgrade now, consider the Canon 70D. If you search this site, you will find several threads about the 70D by people who own and would recommend it.

the way I decided way back when was if I already had Canon lens buy Canon, if I had Nikon buy Nikon this way I wouldn't have to purchase anything more than a new body. The 7D is a good choice so is the 60D. If you have more money I'd go with the 5D Mark III.

my 2 cents

I just saw an ad for a 6D, I think it was $1600. The low light capabilities, make this an excellent choice for shooting in poorly lit Gyms, and night football games. Worth a look.

1. And you are the one who is forever telling people to google this, that and whatever.

2. And, yes, people on this forum are from all over the world. Does being from the UK mean you don't get information from not just the net but from photography magazines in addition to other sources? Odd, other members from the UK, Australia, New Zealand and places other than the US seem to be extremely informed.

3. And lastly, in the avatar that you show here, are you the gentleman in the middle? It's very difficult in the space of a square inch (I don't know the measurement in centimeters and not going to google it) to tell who's who. Have you considered having a photo of yourself only? I'm certainly not advocating cropping but using in-camera composition.

Have a great Sunday!

I agree with the not hammering out 8 shots to get one. I shoot a lot of baseball and rely on timing now as the t2i only is about 3fps.

I was just looking at that also. I completely forgot about the 70D. Might be a better alternative yet.

The 5D would be awesome but kind of out of my budget. I was looking at 6D due to the low light situation. After reading up the 6D,7D and 70D I am really starting to lean towards 70D. All my lenses would work with the 70D body and I think it work well for my circumstances.

I shot for 2 high school football teams this year. I used my Canon 60D and had no problems.

I use the Canon 60D for baseball, football and basketball with the standard 18-200 mm lens. I can get about 15 shots off in about three seconds. Fast enough for me. The body has no performance problems.

I would really like the Sigma 70-200 mm f/2.8 lens. While I fake higher lens quality in post-processing, I need the extra lens speed for the indoor basketball. The noise at 6400 is not that bad and virtually disappears in post processing. In fact, digital ISO 6400 produces less "grain" then Tri-x at 400.

I have a T3i (oops 600D) and have been looking at the 7D. I don't shoot sports but would love to do BIF. That's "birds in flight". I had to look it up on google first time I saw BIF

From what I've seen, the 7D is really intended to be a sports camera. Lots of fps and lots of focus points, lots of good reviews. Sounds like what you need. It is, however, 4 years old and.......
Rumor is there is a 7d MII (google it) coming soon and, rumors being what they are, it's going to be bigger, better, faster with better ISO performance.
If Canon does get their crop sensor noise improved a bit.....I'm sold.
