This has happened to a PC I had. The dogs could not hit a button, however, a nasty person with a good set of skills opened the PC and placed a "NAKED WOMAN" on the screen! I could not get the picture to delete except for a hard disconnect by pulling the power cord from the wall. I saw this happen one other time. I was not amused.

Have any of you experienced this type of thing? Although I have seen it running before when it shouldn't have been, it's not at the same times.

Whatever it is, I'm sure they'll tell me. :D

Jerry just a thought, in the old days I have seen this happen. Serious, I used to have a maintenance program that would automatically start the machine and do a scan disk and de-frag. Perhaps you might have done or installed something like it. Just a thought.

I thought of that, but there is nothing scheduled, and it turns on at random times. One morning I came down, and it was running. I thought I had left it on the night before, but that would mean that I had a made a mistake. :D

Jerry,
You should go into Control Panel and see what is running the next time this happens to be sure your machine is not being used as a clone for SPAM. There were numerous SPAM and remote user programs released last year and this year, that can steal your machine and send out SPAM messages to the net. There's also the possibility that your machine is one that's set up for parallel processing by remote control. The program for calculating Pi is still running out there.

It's also possible that your machine might need a good cleaning inside. I've heard that some ants and insects can chew through wires or cause a short that can spark a machine into life.
Just a suggestion.

When I switch off my computer I also turn off the power.

A possibility, but I don't feel like rewiring everything. This auto-on computer is plugged in under the desk, and I don't want to have to crawl around on the floor to turn it on and off.

Jerry, I think the power bar that Bob is referring to is one that when you shut off you computer it shuts off the power bar and everything that connected to the power bar. When you power the computer again everything on that bar will power up .

Could it be the NSA checking up on you?

They'd be bored to tears. Either that, or they'd wonder why I spend so much time on this UHH forum. :D

Greetings:
Why do you turn off your computers? I have different ones around the house and shop, and all stay on all the time except when the power suddenly goes off for whatever reason. The computer in my shop has been on for over 6 years. The only thing I do is shut down the modem, it stays on, just tap the button on top to disconnect from the cable. Never have had a problem that Norton didn't fix.

Jerry, as long as it hasn't started editing your photos I wouldn't worry about it.
